Do you need a permit to have backyard chickens? Any specific laws in Ascension?

Yeah it's called a Backyard Barnyard Chickens (or BBC for short) permit. You should search "BBC baton rouge" and click images to find the permit to print out and turn in

In Ascension you can probably do whatever you want.
In Baton Rouge on lots less than 1 acre the limit is 3 hens, no roosters.

Looking at my wife’s search history apparently she’s into BBC

Don't think there are any rules in Ascension. Might be different if you have an HOA.

I don’t. Was checking for someone else and all I could find when looking it up was BR and Denham Springs laws but nothing for AP. Figured someone here would know.

Twice a year I buy Cornish Cross meat chickens. Feed them out for a few weeks then slaughter. No big deal.
Egg layers are not worth it to me. Between the crowing, snakes and daily work, I don't want that crap. And if you live in the country, you get about as many free effort as you'd like. A buddy of mine has layers and he gets 40 every single day. He can't sell them so he just gives them away to people he knows.

Keep them birds quiet, there is a noise ordinance

Just don’t say anything and have your chickens & eat them too.

I live in Denham but outside of city limits. No rules for me. I bet Ascension is the same.

If you even have to wonder if you are allowed to have chickens....you probably shouldn't have chickens.
I can never comprehend "owning" a home in which I can't do whatever it is I want. I'd be miserable.
