If someone hasn’t seen it by know they don’t know good movies and they don’t deserve to see it.

It’s a masterpiece.

Eyes Wide Shut

There is something very important we need to do as soon as possible.

What's That?

I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly one of the most satisfying I think.

Planet of the Apes is best as someone mentioned. Other good ones not mentioned The Sixth Sense, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Thing, Dr. Strangelove, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

When it comes to the greatest endings in movie history, an ending that truly satisfies and rewards the viewers, one particular movie that always comes to my mind is Shawshank Redemption. I won’t say too much as to not spoil the magnificent ending for those who haven’t seen it, but I wanted to ask those who have if you agree with me that it is one of, if not the best, movie endings of all time?

I upvoted, but would add that the question you’re really asking in your subject line is “does Shawshank have the most satisfying/rewarding ending”.

As others have mentioned, you take the ending to a film like Casablanca which is considered great - though it may not be “rewarding” for the audience that wanted Rick and Ilsa to wind up together. Gone With the Wind is another with an iconic ending - though some may have wanted Rhett and Scarlet to live happily ever after….or have a different result in the war.

While the back story of the characters is different - there are some similarities with the rough adjustment to prison life to becoming a heroic figure narratives with Shawshank and Cool Hand Luke. Personally, I’ve always felt like that ending was extremely depressing - to the point where I can’t really say if it’s “good” or not. Shawshank is the exact opposite end of the spectrum with (spoilers) the warden going down, Andy escaping and Red eventually joining him…that’s certainly the ending we “wanted” and is happy.

Exactly. There are many endings that are great, however, they aren't satisfying in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I appreciate endings that don't wrap the story in a nice little bow., but instead, leave you asking more questions, or simply just sitting there. A few that do that:

The Deer Hunter - When they sing God Bless America, it is simply chilling.

American Sniper - seeing this in the theatre was incredible. Not a single person said a word. Many had tears in their eyes. Absolutely beautiful.

Seven - What a twisted, sick ending, but also incredible.

Inception - Love this ending for all the debate it generated.

That is certainly a “shocking twist” which made
for an absolutely great payoff to the audience investing two hours in the movie.

But using the OP’s criteria it might not be what some consider “satisfying” if they mean “happy”.

What do you consider to be the “ending” of Pulp Fiction? Butch and Fabienne on the chopper? Jules and Vincent walking out of the diner?

Best movie ending I’ve ever seen is Primal Fear.

That “ending” is in some ways a cheat, because Vincent was already killed on screen.
