re: St. George upheld what now?

Is there a legitimate reason anyone outside of St. George is against this?
BR is pissed that St George will be taking tax money that is “theirs.”
Businessmen like Lipsey and Engquist are pissed that it messes up their business models, which tend to be a mix of contracts controlled by the mayor-president as well as minimal to no oversight in the unincorporated areas.
In general, it comes down to people being upset that St George is rocking the boat by having the temerity to demand that taxes from their area be spent on their area.

She's not going to be mayor after November.
Never say never.
I thought Tara Wicker was going to beat her last time around yet they found a way to DQ her from even running.

The last, IIRC, person that spoke at the hearing prior to the vote dropped the lawsuit bomb. It caused the final vote to flip to support the COA tax.
OK, the C-P voted to hold the election.

1. Because it is EBR tax money and not her personal stash, so she doesn’t mind spending it
I don’t think you understand, EBR Parish did not sue to overturn the election. Broome and Lamont Cole sued as private citizens so she didn’t have public funding behind her.

2. If she doesn’t fight it tooth and nail, she loses tons of tax revenue that now goes to St George along with likely having to cough up five years of taxes retroactive to the incorporation.
She did that with the help of influential backers and lost. She had no more teeth and no more nails.[
quote]She would rather fight a losing battle to keep that money than concede defeat, lose about $25-50m annually from the general fund, and have to cover all that BRPD and BRFD funding by cutting other costs in BR’s budget or raising taxes.[/quote]
It’s not her choice; besides I think James beats her in November. It is going to be his problem, not hers.

Why waste more tax money fighting the inventible?
This split is going to hurt budgets bigly.

Does Lipsey really do a lot of contract work with the city? They mostly do sporting goods, right?

I know United Plaza and Lipsey's properties were mentioned. I am certain there are others.
Is that why he was so against this?
And what about H&E Equipment?

I doubt he does. I’m just thinking it’s an influence grab.
FWIW, his daughter was appointed to the LSU BOS in March of 2021 by JBE.
I’m guessing that it’s all in the game.

StG presser just now has laid out that the Southeast BR ISD is dead. They are planning long term to create a new one that contains the full city limits of St George, as that one only contained about half the city.
Schools will come but not immediately.

Anyone have a link to the presser (not facebook)

I'm sure that bullet is being loaded, now.
Doubtful. It’s an election year and Sharon won’t risk rustling feathers especially considering she has a formidable opponent this go-round who already supports STG.

an awful lot of blame can be laid at her feet.
That wasn't the claim. The claim was 100% broome's fault alone.

It will not be financed with city funds. It will have its own revenue streams
What would those revenue streams be if not a new millage on property taxes in St George?

The existing millages we currently pay to EBRSS could be transferred to our own ISD.

Good for them... Let the people who pays the taxes benefit from them.
