The next big thing in BR

Say someone is opening a new venue in Baton Rouge, say, Restaurant and Bar. What would make YOU come to support the business?
Anything come to mind that you really want to see in BR, but can't find, or don't want to go to a certain place to get? Foods, Drinks, Entertainment?
What location would you like to see? What is the next logical thing this city is missing?

Dave & Busters
Rock & Bowl
Somewhere off of Perkins Road....like say where the WM was and has now been cleared out.....or tear down the other shopping center across Acadian......Somewhere where the establishments would not get run-down and shitty

Okay, I am partially kidding. There are a few places with great service, including yours. It is a problem in this area though. Not trying to hijack, so back to the topic...
I think with the growing Hispanic population in the area, the first person to land an "authentic," home style place nice enough to take your momma to would do well.
I would have a laundromat with a liquor license near Perkins or Highland somewhere.
Cheese. A med-high end restaurant the serves primarily cheese. Grilled cheeses on the best breads with fresh veggies and tomatoes. Dessert cheeses. An extensive wine list would pad the bankroll. A hearty soup menu wouldn't hurt.

Somewhere to hang out for the out of college/young professional crowd. You basically have a couple places downtown, wine loft in PR, and a couple of restaurant bars. That is about it.

great BBQ and blues in a very casual setting
reasonable priced tapas bar
chef run place focusing on dishes using using local ingredients....and over half of the dishes not being gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish, etc...
ourstanding latin american or cuban restaurant, not mexican.

a pizza parlor and Korean BBQ at the Perkins Road overpass.

A CC's CoffeeHouse on S. Sherwood Forest Between Old Hammond and I-12, preferably on the west side of the boulevard.
Other than that:
Korean BBQ, Tapas bar, deep dish chicago style pizza parlor (think Uno's), and an authentic Cuban/Puertorican restaurant/bar/salsa lounge.

great call.
Also, like you mentioned, a real deep dish pizza parlor would do great as well as much as Baton Rouge folks like popping out kids.

Great Chinese Ala Carte Restraunt..BR has none since MK Wong retired and sold Chinese Inn to his cousins. His brother Kit sold his decent Mandarin to go do monster bank at Ichiban selling sushi. And Royal Hawaiian's owners folded shop and moved away long ago. PF Chang is OK, but a chain. Taste Of Asia is BR's only quality local, and it has a very limited Chinese menu, as it is 1/3rd Chinese, Thai, and Viet.
Tapas..appetizers..drinks..like in NYC..LA
Cuban..frijoles negro over saffron rice w/cilantro and sour cream..plantain..yucca..mojitos..etc..like found in Miami
Baja Taqueria/Ostenaria..fish tacos..cerviche..Wahoo..Rubio..Baja Fresh..Arandas..etc..preferably like those in SD
Midwest Frozen Custard..is not ice cream!..Culvers..Ritters..Leons..Ted Drewes..etc..like in Milwaukee, Chi, St.L..
Authentic Kosher Jewish/NYC Deli..not generic chains from Oxford-Ms nor Dallas-Tx like McAlisters nor Jasons.
Mexican Tamale Restraunt..multiple types & sauces..Dona Marias-LV..LA..
Juice Bar..low and/or no added sugars..wheat grass..no HFCS..Jamba Juice..etc..
Salad and Soup Bar..Sweet Tomatoes/Soup Plantation..etc..
Macrobiotic..just kidding..you'd go broke within a year in Louisiana.

you would be shocked. Most decent sized cities have a cheese shop that serves cheese, meats, high end ingredient, and simple foods using these ingredients.
BR may not support it, but it does pretty well in New Orleans.

BR needs a Cuban restaurant.
In college I wanted to open one at North Gate. Had a business plan put together, had a perfect location available with a great lease, but ultimately didn't go through with it.
But after working as a waiter, bartender and a manager, in retrospect I realize that I spared myself an ulcer
I'll be a silent partner in a place like that one day, though.

I agree that a cuban res. would be great or anything latin american but not Mexican.
here's another idea, a top notch but not overly pricey (where utensils and table clothes take a back seat to ingredients and kitchen talent) Spanish Restaurant. Watching the Spain on the Road series on PBS got me thinking that in the right location downtown this thing could take off. But NOT a tapas bar. maybe once a week do it, but a tapas bar is dependent on other such places in walking distance to be authentic otherwise its just another gimmick.
