I just wanted to share some love for Webb Memorial Golf Course in Baton Rouge. We had a company golf outing today there and I haven’t played Webble Beach in about 10 years. It was in surprisingly decent condition and the staff was awesome. Very accommodating. It’s such a gem in the heart of BR. It also is 100 years old this year!!

If you haven’t played there in a while, go check it out!

I played it New Year’s Eve and it was the best condition I had seen the course.

Fun track. Fairways are usually in good shape. Long overdue for a renovation and expansion of the greens and tee boxes though

More Webb facts:
It was Westdale Country Club at one time.
Next it was LSU’s golf course from mid 30’s to mid 50’s.
I played there with a LSU national golf champion member from the 40/41 era.

I’d guess Daly played there when he played for Zachary HS.

When Al Michaels ran things, Webb was well maintained and a great course for serious golfers. That was over 50 years ago.

Holes 2, 4, 7, 9, 13, and 18 played long when the irons were blades and the woods were woods. Talk, thick trees lined the fairways. Driving into the trees was a killer and out of bounds on a lot of the holes made things tougher.

Number 8 had white poles that marked an out of bounds along 2 fairway. The canal wasn’t lined with concrete yet; nor was college drive four laned. 3 and 8 played slightly longer for that reason.

When they built I10 someone came up with the bright idea of dumping load after load of excess dirt under the trees that lined the fairways. It was spread out, but the grass that was under the trees became hard pan. To my knowledge things only got worse as players would tell you when you drive into the trees.

Webb was a gem back then. It could be again.

Did not realize that. Per Wiki he was there for 9th and some of 10th grade.

The fairways are good now. Bunkers have good sand (but seldomly are raked). If the greens were Clark level and a smidge bigger it would be nice.

If only BREC would’ve used the cart path money from City Park and dumped it into Webble

I bet he managed to fly it through/over the trees and cut off the dog leg. That was a long five.

Played Webb after work yesterday. The fairways are in really nice shape. The greens are not. They were either fuzzy, had a bunch of poa or they were dead. Or a combination of all 3 on the same 10 foot putt. It's awful. I played City Park on Saturday and their greens (except 7) are all in much better condition than Webb right now.

It's a shame because I work so close, but it's complete luck to have a putt drop.

I’m playing in the morning. Hate to hear that. Should I try to go to Clark?

Is Clark fun?
I played before the changes they made and it was ok.

I like it a lot. Nice distance between holes, nice scenery, good variety of hazards, big greens. It is just a 9 hole course, but the two flag system works fine.

Edit: I’m pretty terrible, so take all that with a grain of salt.
