According to this article not many.

salary-a-single-person-needs-to-live-comfortably-in-every-state

IMO the people who write these articles are so out of touch with most people who don't live in big cities in the US.

Do you really think it takes over $80k for a single person to "live comfortably" in Louisiana.

I live comfortably but I am a single man with zero dependents. I am also upset that I cannot attract a beautiful woman.

I have a great job. I make very good money. I have outstanding credit but I lack companionship. I am 56 years old and I really don’t want to live alone. I thought about suicide . It would break my family’s world if I died though.

These days absolutely. I'm a single person making six figures in Louisiana and still some months it seems like there is nothing left over

Also "living comfortably" is completely different depending on the person and their lifestyle

What defines "living comfortably" varies widely from person to person, but they probably aren't too far off for the cities in LA. Obviously, you can live cheaper in rural areas or smaller towns.

I think a single person making 50k would struggle without roommates. We've just destroyed the value of the currency.

Depends on how comfortable we are talking. Right now I wouldn’t want to be single making 80k and trying to buy a house with these interests rates.

The more I make the more I spend and it’s been that way for 20 years??. Not sure I’ll ever be 100% comfortable.

One person’s “comfortable” can be another person’s miserable. In general, women are much more “uncomfortable” living what I would call a “spartan” lifestyle than men are.

These data sets are really only good for understanding population economics and generating click bait articles. Applying state averages to your own life rarely works out because the cost of living swings pretty hard based on where you need to live to work and that’s where your income is generated.

I make a very good living and we save till it hurts, but some months expenses come up that are unforeseen. I had to get installed a tankless water heater, a roof repair, etc. that have run me $7,000 this month.

We don’t always control how much we make, but we’re always in control of how much we spend. Save till it hurts and be very frugal and circumspect with the residual.

I live pretty good. I know people that make as much as I do and are paycheck to paycheck. Crazy arse car payments , Spend outrageous money on fishing and hunting gear. Eat out everyday , Zero idea how to grocery shop. People do it to themselves.

Not at all.

Hell i could probably do alright with 25k.

Instead 25k doesn't cover the mortgage.

I’ve never lived beyond my means. Staying ahead of income has afforded me the opportunity to invest for long term and retirement. Keeping that mentality has always kept us comfortable.

Yeah I’m chilling. I never think about money. I’m a simple dude and already make more than I’d ever feel ok with spending. Once you make it past that it’s all just more gravy. And half of that is just “don’t need meaningless rich people shite to be happy”
