Tourists ruined this beautiful Hawaiian attraction — so it’s being demolished

Hikers in Hawaii will have to find a new way to reach the Heavens.
The legendary Haiku Staircase on Oahu, Hawaii will finally be demolished after tourists continued to trespass on the legendary landmark despite repeated warnings.
According to the Honolulu City Government, the iconic site will be torn down by the end of this month, making good on a motion that the city unanimously voted on in 2021.
“I can promise you that this was not a capricious decision,” Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a press release. “This was a decision, when we came into office, that was long overdue.”
Often dubbed the “Stairway to Heaven,” the Haiku Staircase comprises a treacherously steep series of 3,922 steps that winds along a mountain range in Kaneohe, making hikers feel like they’re in the clouds.
Built during World War II by the US Navy, the landmark was shuttered in 1987 due to vandalism and littering. Any trespassers are currently liable for a $1,000 fine.

Nobody really hikes anyway that’s just something chicks put on their dating profiles because they walked half a mile outside on vacation 3 years ago

I hiked the long route to the top last year. It's a pretty tough hike when you go the legal route. Barely got any pictures in before the clouds and rain moved in.
The legal route is the Moanalua Valley Trail. I actually tried to hike this trail on a previous trip before finally completing it last year. I didn't do any research and tried to wing it the first time and I didn't have enough water. The trail is about 10.5 miles round trip. The first 3 miles is flat and the last 2.5 miles is going up the ridge line. We had to come back down in the rain and we fell and slid most of the way. Had a flight at 7 PM to Maui and got there just as they were boarding.

Yeah by breaking the law. Oh no something no one can legally use won't be there anymore. You can still hike up the mountain if you want to, dumbass.

People break the law every day. Some laws are just stupid. You can get hurt on the legal route just as easily as you could on the stairs.

The stairs look like an eyesore upon the natural beauty of the area.
Good Riddance

OHH NO THESE SHITHOLE STAIRS WON'T BE THERE ANYMORE

In 2015 a huge storm damaged several sections of the stairs to the point where they were severely mangled. It isn’t incredibly dangerous but it definitely makes things interesting. A number of the stairs are loose and each step had to be taken with that in mind.
