Fallout **SPOILER** Discussion Thread

Finished this afternoon. What a ride. Loved all of it. Great performances all around. Huge Fallout games fan so this was Christmas.
I'll admit I didn't know a bunch about Goggins going into this other than I recognized him from a few things, but I'm all on board now. The Ghoul was great, but his back story so was well done and heart wrenching. That needle drop when he hears his wife tell the council that Vault-Tec would drop the bombs hit so hard. I did have a big question about when the Ghoul asked McLean where his family was. My first assumption was Cooper would leave his wife after that revelation, but now I feel he would have kept his mouth shut in order to stay with his daughter and protect her. But his daughter was with him when the bombs fell, so I figured she didn't survive when he clearly got exposed to the fallout. There's probably going to be a lot more backstory to him in season 2.
Maximus sucked. Just a naive coward through and through. I know we're probably supposed to hate him but I was waiting for him to be redeemed in some manner but him revealing the location of Moldaver to the Brotherhood just to save his neck just cemented him to me as someone who needed to die in a bear trap.
Some of my favorite lines:
"That arse jerky isn't going to carve itself"
"Do you want to make my penis explode now?"
"Golden rule, motherfricker."
And of course I loved that they dropped a "war...war never changes".
The Fallout 4 theme that hit when Lucy unfurled the NCR flag made me squeal.
When Norm was hacking the overseer's computer, him guessing the right answer was BS. They needed to have him get it wrong 3 times, backing out, and trying again a few more times. Because that's how that works
Side note, the New Vegas truthers have been in rare sensitive form about this show. Most of them are convinced Todd Howard worked extra hard to retcon the game out of the lore. But the last shot of the season was McLean walking up on New Vegas, where the people in charge are clearly set up.

The Fallout threads have illuminated just how many people don't know Walton Goggins first and last name.

When he is doing that birthday party when the bombs drop, the dads talk about him paying alimony, so he's definitely divorced at that point. It will definitely be interesting to see that story play out though.
Curious to see what the story is that allowed Moldaver to live that long, much less his wife. If she and the vault crew were controlling the bomb strikes it would be weird for the daughter to be with him.

Thaddeus is my favorite. Should make a great ghoul. His voice reminds me of Charlie from It’s Always Sunny.

Again, I'm not familiar with him
And I forgot the alimony comment.

I hit up the spoiler thread on Redditt. Feel kind of dumb they weren't pushing hard on the idea that Cooper was the inspiration for Vault Boy with all the thumbs up..........especially considering my profile pic.

Is that actually Bud’s brain in the robot?

I imagine we're going to find things got a lot bigger than that board meeting where she announced Vault-Tec would drop the bombs. Maybe it happened a lot sooner than they were anticipating.

So are those clones that norm found or is that literally the Henry that the ghoul met before the bomb drops?

I don’t know the answer, but I don’t think clones. I think those are the actual people frozen.

The vault 31 overseer/brain was trying to get Hank's son to use "Hank's" cryo/stasis tank so most likely actual Hank that the ghoul met in the past.

I think each one takes a turn and just lives out their life as overseer until they die then they get another one. There were quite a few empty pods.
On Goggins, he’s just great. Just gives gravity and weight to even small lines. I loved when he’s sitting with the dog after the flashback and just says, yeah, you ain’t him.

but Hank was not the only one alive from that era in their vault
ETA: Not sure about the downvote, but Barb was clearly from the same timeline that Hank was from and both were unfrozen obviously

Each one of the original Vault Tec employees from the Bud's Buds program were chosen for their management skills. The cryo chamber shot indicated that there were more than enough of them to go around, with multiple assets deployed for multiple consecutive generations.
It will be interesting to find out how Moldaver managed to secure a spot in one of those cryo tanks.
We knew that Bethesda was amazing at world building, but the level of execution at recreating the entire Fallout universe, even when establishing a new area that we've never seen in the games before, this time Los Angeles, is an unbelievably well done by the producers.

Still need to watch it, but I don't really like the idea of them definitively saying that Vault-Tec dropped the bombs. The games always left that open to speculation, which was better I think.
I think they're upset about nuking Shady Shands and the date on the chalkboard of the fall, which seriously contradicts the timeline & what's going on in New Vegas with the NCR.

I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn't a single bobby pin or picked lock to be found in the entire first season, but when Norm was looking to hack into the overseers terminal in vault 33, that made me smile.

He got it on the first attempt too. His luck must be maxed out.
ETA: I love that during the vault board meeting that the different vault experiments pitched all were discoverable in the various games. Just an extremely well done adaptation.
