Just saw him in birmingham, he doesn’t allow alcohol sales. I’ve never heard of such a thing

What is he calling himself this week?
He's gone by the names of John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, John Mellencamp...
Beer and concerts. I mean, ain't that America?

I love his music for the most part but he is just an insufferable human being. He truly hates life & his own fans. It’s really strange.

He's an a-hole. All there is to it. He's old and still threatens to cancel shows mid concert, like a young Axl Rose, except he's not young. Should be glad anyone goes to his shows at all these days.

I’d never go to a Mellencamp show, but I’d have to imagine that anyone who does would surely need to be well liquored-up to tolerate his performance.

My first wife loved his music and we went to see him a couple of times in the 80s. It was pretty cool stuff.. Cherry Bomb, Paper on Fire...
Ya know when he was a baby he had a rare special medical condition and they had to remove his head from his arse or something like that. Then a few years ago they decided to put it back in.

Mellencamp has good songs but he's a giant douche.

I agree with the second part only.

He's 2nd to Roger Waters as being the biggest a-hole in rock music.
Although I think Ginger Baker had them both beat.

Well he's LIBERAL AS FLUCK, so him hating his life certainly checks out.
That being said, I've always liked his music a lot, and I'm going to seem him for the first time next Sunday in Norfolk, VA.
I've never been a drinker, so that doesn't bother me.

Any word as to why the douche has a no booze rule?

Just saw an article where he was telling a story at a concert. Someone yelled at him to shut up and play, After some engagement, he started a song, stopped, and stormed off stage.

He’s always been an a-hole, but when he was younger it was more organic. Now he goes out of his way to be even more of a prick and I find it to be phony. The show where he stormed out was legitimately real, but I’d read reviews of his other shows. In every single one at the same point in the show, without exception, he would get pissed at the audience for yelling and lecture them that they weren’t in a bar. Then later, he would chastise them about getting the verses to Jack and Diane wrong. Every single time. As if the same mistake would be made in every show.
Then in interviews, he’s over the top with contrarian schtick to anything that’s asked or discussed. Like others in this thread, I like a ton of his music and that’s in spite of my politics being 180 degrees different than his, but he’s a hard person to like.

He’s like an old Jason Isbell

his average concertgoer is 72, no doubt their cardiologists approve
great tunes though, without a doubt he's the second best acoustic Americana singer/songwriter whose first name is John to come out of central Indiana in the early 1980s

Maybe he's a recovering alcoholic?

I'll say this, both sides (the concertgoer and Mellencamp) were assholes, but geeze John. Not a good look at all. I never knew this about him
