Leaving out several of the major liberal gardens of crime would seem to have an effect. Then too, these same "progressive" cities routinely downgrade a host of crimes to make it look better.

quote:

Now, because roughly one-third of the country’s police departments don’t report their numbers to the FBI — jurisdictions like New York, L.A, Baltimore, D.C, and Chicago do not — the FBI report is only a (very vague) estimate. One reliable source — which I trust more than the Bureau on this — posits roughly 18,800 murders as the final nationwide number for 2023.

No, as mentioned FBI does estimates and is very generous with those estimates. There was an example given, can't remember the city, but FBI said murders were down, where local PD said murders had gone up almost 10%

It’s down in New Orleans.

Statistics current as of March 4, 2024, show that violent crime is down 34 percent year to date compared to the same period in 2023.

Urban mayors have been redefining 'crime' for a long time to rig the statistics. My favorite was New Orleans reducing their murder rate:
If the victim is dead when the cops arrive, it's murder.
When the victim is taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds and dies there, it's 'deceased during hospitalization.' That eliminates dozens of murders per year.

Need a bit more info

From what period to what period?

Is is down because of a stated cause or an unstated one?

Crime was down for a bit and both sides claimed policy for the credit but part was aging baby boomers meant they were in jail or dead so naturally the numbers dropped from this cause.

When you reclassify crimes and don’t arrest or prosecute, of course numbers will drop. However, the reality is of course crime is very high.

Yes, murders might be down in major cities but “lead poisoning” deaths have skyrocketed. Police don’t respond or people just don’t bother calling them anymore.

Dallas reported all crime is down with 1000 job openings.

Chief is a democrat so, numbers manipulation is the game.

Crime can't go up when there aren't enough police officers to enforce the law or the DA drops most charges.

Would you call the police when their response time is 45 minutes and they won't do anything anyways?
