Any LA Italian folks pursue Italian citizenship?

Just curious if anyone has had any experience with this. I traced my family tree in louisiana and turns out I qualify for Italian citizenship by birth from my relatives who came here back in the mid 1800s.
Now going to pull all the documentation and set up an appointment with an Italian consulate to get the citizenship

I've looked into it. Basically if you can prove they came from Italy and no one in the chain down to you "renounced" their Italian citizenship, you can qualify. What paperwork are they having you do? From what I saw, it's kind of involved to get all the correct documentation

I found someone who is going to pull all the records I need and get the apostille docs to apply. About $2,500. Then just need to get an appointment at an Italian consulate.
In my case my GGF came here and was a farmer in Tangipahoa. He and his wife always wrote AL (alien) on the census records so they never renounced

My friend did within the last two years. They assigned him a place in a small city that’s nice but not desirable as a tourist. He had someone check in on him frequently to make sure he was still there (requirement for the program). He was told by his neighbor that once they stop checking, they’ll never check again which was his case after only two weeks. He spent the rest of him time exploring Italy. He got the passport sent to his house in the US shortly after getting back.

How does this work? My ancestors immigrated to America in 1915 from Italy. You’re telling me I can go back to the motherland?

That's badass. There's three ways to do it: move there and apply, hire an attorney and they file it in the courts, or go through the consulate here

Dont tell them you are a Dago Coonass! Might get rejected.
Seriously, I work with a bunch of them South Louisiana Sicilianos. Good luck with it!

Yeah, if you can trace one family member back to Italy and they had your next generation relative before renouncing citizenship, then you qualify
