Curious... What is Cruise Ship procedure? To Stop? Search? Or just move on???
asking for a friend.

I read somewhere that even when they're doing man overboard drills and know where to look it's really hard to spot someone in the water.

I read almost 1 in 3 overboarders get picked up safely. Like 30%. Kinda surprising.

Another article said the ship stopped until the coast guard arrived. Hey, at least the vacation was a little extended for the other passengers.

Ships have an emergency vessel they will deploy if needed

They try to turn the ship and search. The problem is by the time they get the ship turned and headed back they could be a mile away or more. So depending on currents the search area could be very large even if they act quickly.
What you do if you see someone go over is start throwing stuff in the water, chairs, life vests, anything to create more stuff that can be seen. But it’s still most likely that you’ll never find the person.

dumb kids that age, especially drunk, think they’re invincible. I’d bet he didn’t think he was going to die until he was about 3/4 of the way through that jump. Probably had a split second where he sobered up before his death when he realized oh shite I’m gonna die
Or he was totally blackout drunk and it was pointless to be giving him a hard time instead of just creating the easiest path back to his room possible.
Not the families fault but you see it often where people try to argue with or shame the wasted person. Not usually super productive.

save the CG the time. He’s dead.
There’s a bunch of sea creatures that would like to eat him. Plus, he probably got sucked under the ship.

My understanding is that this almost never happens.
Ships displace water so you are usually pushed away, which adds to the difficulty in finding the person.

That was the 18 year old Louisiana guy. Sharks got him, too. I saw it.
It’s more likely that Robbins drowned from exhaustion. Sharks don’t view humans as prey.

I saw the fin in the video. And the tip of the sharks right flipper fin deal. I saw a tooth. Maybe three teeth. It was hard to tell in the slown down, blown up, nighttime, potato vision video I saw, but it was undoubtedly 100% a shark that got him.

It’s highly unlikely that sharks ate him. Stop watching Jaws. Sharks do NOT view humans as desirable prey.
Here’s the likely outcome that happened: Robbins jumped off the ship, kid throws a buoy towards him but he doesn’t go towards it because he sees something next to it. A minute later, the cruise ship is already hundreds of yards from Robbins. He treads as long as he can and screams at the top of his lungs for several more minutes until he gives up from exhaustion and drowns. That is 99% what probably happened

They did. I saw it. I can't believe you didn't see it in that video.

The video resolution is too crappy to make if it was a shark or not. You don’t know for certain if it truly was one. And even if it was one, I doubt it attacked Robbins.
