Why stop there? At 6am they should have to face the cardinal direction of the nearest military base and salute when Reveille plays.

He called for a new policy that would require athletes to stand for the National Anthem.

I’ve known, and been a fan of, Coach Mulkey since she was 12 years old and I believe she should alter her routine to allow her players to be on the floor for the National Anthem.
I can guarantee she doesn't give a flying F what you think.

Should we also put a picture of the president in the locker room and the players each swear loyalty to it for 5 minutes a day?

Even Fox News’ Sandy Smith, a former LSU athlete, agreed with him.
This is a dumb take. Her point of existence is to work up their viewers

Think I'll sit the next time the anthem is played at a sporting event, I mean I'm not risking a scholarship so I should be able to

What is wrong with having athletes demonstrate respect for the nation?
Nothing, and I'd like to see them all do it, but I don't want them to be mandated. That makes the gesture meaningless and it would likely have the opposite effect.

How about he come up with new policies for education, crime and infrastructure in the state of Louisiana instead of spending 72 hours on this fricking nonsense
Why worry about that, when all he has to do is drum up some MAGA talking points to keep his voter base in check.
I have to imagine all of north Louisiana, plus Lafayette and Houma/Thibodaux are ferociously jacking off to what Landry is doing while they put a new American-flag themed bumper sticker on their truck.

It’s not that simple. You would also have to get every arena to agree on the same time (ex: 5 minutes before tip) for playing the anthem. And you have to mandate that too or they would feel free to change it before any given game.

We should move to a tradition where the players, the crowd, everyone, whips themselves across the head and back as the anthem plays and loudly mourns the fact that they are not George Washington himself. Like Shi'ite extremists.

I like freedom. If someone wants to protest the national anthem, they should have the right to. People can feel how they want about an athlete exercising that right but they should get the right none the less.
Making laws like this is a slippery slope. Do you want a law that saws that you have to fly a rainbow flag during pride month? Saying someone HAS to stand for the national anthem isn't much different. Sure you can argue that the national anthem is more important but regulating that people have to act a certain way is not the free American society that our founding father's fought for.

Politics has no place in amateur athletics. Jag Off needs to stay in his damned lane and figure out how to bring insurance rates down.

Being able to protest is a constitutional right. Conservatives always say that free speech is under attack, then turn around and freak out on people protesting the flag(even though the team didn’t even fricking protest). This is why politics are dumb.
I'm a conservative and Landry is on the wrong side of the argument here, for various reasons.
He's pandering to the low IQ portion of the Republican party.

No, he didn’t. He said they should be on the court. When asked if they should be forced to stand, he didn’t answer it directly, saying if they don’t want to stand, they don’t have to play.

THIS! I’m so sick of this FAKE controversy. THERE WAS NO PROTEST NO DISRESPECT INTENDED! JUST DROP IT.
