I’m as patriotic (personally) as they come, but I think this is a dumb discussion overall. I’m still IN the military and I think the forced connection that athletic events have with the Anthem (which isn’t specific to the military) and also the military (in form of various flyovers, recognitions, stand-and-claps) is awkward.

When these things become bigger conversations than the game itself, then they are misplaced.

I get that playing the Anthem at sporting events started during wartime to boost patriotism during tough times and that the military recognitions boost recruiting, but now that they are politicized flash points are they really value added?

still a retarded take and view from a sitting governor

Being able to protest is a constitutional right. Conservatives always say that free speech is under attack, then turn around and freak out on people protesting the flag(even though the team didn’t even fricking protest). This is why politics are dumb.

IKR. Not all conservatives of course. Some are still true to free speech, but not the ones you see on TV like this.

I am not cool with forcing anything. I do believe in free speech, period. Even if I don't agree with what's being said. I wish more people could just be fair. Even if I don't like people protesting the anthem I still like knowing which ones would. Let people make fools of themselves.

I am also not cool with all these recent proposed bans, but I won't get into all that.

I'm so disappointed in conservatives right now. So tired of the outrage over such a non issue.

The dude don't give a crap about this state. He's positioning for the national stage within the party. This is the same guy that believes if a child get pregnant from rape, she should have the baby. I'm so over both parties and their stupid politics.

Anecdotal but my girl works in the construction field in Lafayette. I asked her around election time if any of her vendors were big Landry people and she said if they were, she wasn't aware of it.

Piss on Landry to speak prior to having all of THE FACTS. Nothing he can do or say will forgive his short-sighted take on this whole thing. Will NEVER,, EVER, give that bastard my vote EVER again.

would think someone with was the attorney general would understand basic constitutional law that would apply to a public university. But why do that when you virtue signal to your base.

True, but you'd also think someone who understands how to get elected governor would have the political savvy to realize Tigerdroppings is laughing at him.

It's not the teams' (notice that is plural because LSU isn't the only team) routine that is the problem moron.

Landry got what he wanted. He got on national TV made the news cycle for something that he wont talk about again and no one will call him out on later. Its a win win for him.

Regardless of your position of standing or not standing for the national anthem, the policy he says should be in place would be unconstitutional. Part of what makes this country great is not having the government mandate your freedom of speech, which IMO is more important to the bedrock of this country's foundations as standing for the national anthem. I don't like people kneeling or having silent protests during the anthem, but I also acknowledge that's their right to do so.

I voted for Landry. I disagree with his stance on this. I do agree if you are out there you stand. Protest on your own personal time not on the schools athletic time. Other than that yes it would be stupid to change the long held tradition of the football team running on the field just prior to the game. And if they don't have to be out there then no one HAS to be out there.

Sssssoooo, since Landry is now apparently Captain America in your mind, I assume you want him to have the balls to stand up to his cult leader. You know the one that refuses to have pictures taken with handicapped veterans, wounded veterans, or former POWS. Love how the "paper patriots" choose the divisive issues that have nothing to do with human beings. I understand!

And that is the solution. Keep every team in the locker room and it solves everything. This would not be an issue here and kneeling wouldn't be allowed unless they want to do it in the locker room. That is the solution that should not offend anyone

Are you on drugs? That is an incredibly asinine statement. First, there is NOTHING to fix! It is a made-up issue to throw red meat at the red base. There is no legitimate issue here....totally manufactured.

He did it on the heels of this event. He's being disingenuous. Guy was a shoe in for the position due to blue fatigue in the state and He's proving to be a total f up. Politicians from West of the Basin should stay there. They do not understand the rest of the state. Like two different worlds.

The look of Iowa standing out on the court holding their hands against their chest for the national anthem, while LSU was in the locker room was a bad look, no matter what the reason was. I played high school sports 30+ years ago and college baseball for 4 of those years and I don’t ever recall us being in the clubhouse while the national anthem was played. Whether it was a honest mistake, due to normal pre game rituals, Mulkey should change it to be there when the anthem is played. We all know Mulkey is not one of those liberal anti flag woke folks, so I believe her when she said what she said but she should make the pre game adjustments and be there.
