I quit doing cardio

Stopped at first of the year and have really seen a positive change. Of course, as always, a lot has been diet too. Been a little more strict. But just lifting 6 days a week has made a huge difference in physique and overall feeling.

quote:I do think cardio has been almost fetishized - especially as compared to lifting. Based on some limitations I have with my back/pelvis, I mostly do circuit type of training that is relatively heavy on weights, but sort of never stops. I am always out of breath, so I consider it basically to be my cardio. I then randomly d0 lifting sets at my house throughout the day.

In general, I believe resistance training is really the key to healthy longevity (obviously, on top of diet). Peter Attia has gone the other way - recommending like 20 hours of cardio per week. I think that's unrealistic and nuts.

I also consider the higher intensity workouts that get your heart rate way up to be cardio. That’s been most of mine lately with lesser frequency of basketball.
I’ve always preferred the versions of cardio with more explosive movements and rest over endurance based.

What do you consider cardio?
For those that dont jog...I dont blame you but for those that dont walk, you are missing out bigly

You can do both. I don't do cardio to lose weight or fat as I don't have any to lose I do it to strengthen my cardio vascular system. The weight/fat part is done in the kitchen not with weights or cardio.

I jog in a mile in the morning because my dog likes it. Otherwise, I do a couple of hikes per week with 25-40 lbs in my pack. It gets my heart rate up and my knees/ankles don't feel as bad as when I was trail running. I forgot where I read it but I think it has a lot of the same benefits as running. It's definitely made hunting a lot easier and more enjoyable. I can pack out a quartered deer like it's nothing.

Cardio is vastly overrated. Resistance Training/Weight lifting is where it is at.

If you want to see a body composition change, strength training is >>>> cardio.

I used to hate on cardio but now I love my 300 weekly minutes of zone two jogging and biking. It’ll come in handy when I’m hiking up a 12,000 ft peak this summer.

I think some cardio is beneficial but just like everything else it needs to be in moderation. My overall personal mission statement is that I want to be stronger than the people that are faster than me and faster than the people that are stronger than me. This requires a little bit of everything.

I do anchor my "cardio" around 2 - 3 HIIT workouts per week and 2- 3 longer, steady state ,VO2 max, for a target of between 100 and 150 minutes per week. Strength is 5 to 6 sessions, about 30 minutes per. That runs between 4 and 5 1/2 hours per week and tends to average out at about 275 to 280 minutes per week, all in.
20 hours of cardio for a non- marathon runner or triathlete seems insane and even extreme endurance athletes, not named Goggins, likely temper that with active rest weeks. Just the overuse injuries sustained would be counterproductive. That's 3 hours, 20 mins per day with a sole rest day. Of cardio.
frick that
