Similar childhood memories that most us have

Time for some nostalgia. I will start…
Being given some money and thinking you were rich.
When you were asleep in your car and your dad makes that final turn and you just knew you were home.
Not allowed to turn a light on inside the car at night.
Staring out the window on long car rides in the rain. Watching rain drops drip down the window and seeing which one wins the race all the way down.
Staring at the school clock wishing it was recess.
What the wooden stick, you used for ice cream, tastes like.
Thinking “I will remember this moment forever” and you are doing something that is really insignificant.

Being seven and playing cops and robbers with a gun-shaped stick without having to worry about being arrested by the police. I killed like 200 people and didn't catch a single charge.

Playing in a ditch/canal in the neighborhood
Riding bikes with friends all day long in the summertime
Starting fires
Telling my little cousins the Easter Bunny/Santa aren't real

Riding bikes with your friends, looking for something to do and stumbling on to some backyard adventure.

Saturday morning cartoons
Birthday parties at places like Skate City, Don Carter's, Putt Putt Golf, Fun Fair Park, or McDonalds.
Cruising the mall
Thinking that you were staying hydrated drinking capri suns all day, or those sugar drinks in the little plastic barrels.
Price is Right on sick days

Great thread!
I’m pretty sure the ice cream truck song is the same everywhere in the world. If I heard it today, I’d probably start running home to get a quarter.

Being able to go anywhere without fear of something happening (or meeting some rapscallion)
Pickup games of football or baseball
Teachers that universally gave a shite and taught you useful things
Going to the beach and/or pool almost every day

That yeast smell as you walk past the cafeteria in the morning, from all the rolls being made
Riding your bike down a huge dirt hill and almost dying
Birthday parties at McDonalds
Recording songs on the radio with your cassette / radio player
Watching a recorded TV Show or Movie on VHS and at the end, it switches over to some other show that was recorded over

Also seeing how many stripes in the road you could count before they started passing too quickly.

Getting inside of an old tractor tire and then having my podnahs roll the tire down the slope in a pasture that lead to a bayou in the back of my street. Lots of faith in the guys running along side you that they would tip the tire over before it hit the edge of the bayou cause there was about a 10 foot drop to the water.

Asking dad to roll down his window a little because the cigarette smokes too thick in the truck.
Hitting rocks and dirt clods with a bat.
Shooting Cicadas with BB guns.
Having BB gun fights.
The smell of fresh baked bread in Grandmas kitchen.

Grew up in a small town. I’m an 80’s kid. So no cell phones then. When we wanted to find our friends for a baseball or football game we’d ride our bikes around town to different friends houses and whoever had the most bikes in their yard, we knew where the boys were.

Hearing the buzz of the street light coming on, saying it was time to get home before it was fully bright.
