What whiskeys do you expect to see at a nice restaurant?

Had dinner with a friend last night and we sat at the bar of a local restaurant.
We started talking about the place’s whiskey collection and their top shelf stuff was along the lines of Blanton's, Angel's Envy, WhistlePig Rye etc. and he kind of shite on it. Those suit me fine but he’s a whiskey collector and it got me thinking, what would you expect to find on the top shelf of a bar or restaurant's whiskey selection?
He said they should have Stagg, Pappy, CE Taylor etc but I don’t bother with stuff like that unless it’s a gift. I was wondering what the whiskey aficionados on this board think about that and if you judge a place based on what they have on the shelves

It would depend on what town you were in and how nice this place is.
Seems to me it's a pretty good place doing well with the choices you listed. Not sure I would expect much better than that unless it was real high end or a bourbon focused kind of bar place.

Agree with Notiger. Most places arent going to have a crazy selection and here in Laffy, I’d say only one or two have a better selection than I do at home. I’ll usually try to have a midrange type pour when out and about.

Distributors hold the products and distribute them at will to whomever supports their “other products.” Liquor is a dirty business. With restaurants struggling don’t be surprised to see fewer and fewer of these spirits behind restaurant bars. Also, Louisiana gets one of the smallest allocations of these products in the country

Can attest. And as noted, on premise bars and restaurants got shafted when Herr Edwards had them all shutdown during Covid and the majority is still going to retail. Stores are buying pallets of shite they can’t sell to have the privilege of a once a year bottle or two of Pappy.

No kidding, I walked in to a liquor store the other day after they released an Eagle Rare and BT barrel pick, the owner had stacks of margarita mix and Wheatly vokda stacked to the ceiling. I asked him about it and he pointed to the barrels. Said this is what it took to get those.

Makes sense, we are in Nashville so it’s a bourbon heavy town and they allocate a lot of nice bottles for sure.
I like whiskey but don’t really care that much about it and there are some hardcore bourbon snobs here

While that is an impressive collection, it doesn't look like a bar you'd typically find in a nice restaurant. In fact, it looks like a bar you'd find in a bar. Now I'm thirsty.

Where is that? I see Local Craft beer on tap, so is this in Louisiana?

As long as the restaurant has WT101 I'm happy with the place.

Yeah but they will charge you the whole bottle price for a 2 oz pour.

I think wick owns a bar. Nice brown selection. Most nice restaurants at least in New Orleans will be more wine & cocktail-focused. I think it also depends on the bar size & theme.
I was in Mamou recently(small, French bistro style place) at the bar & they had a few old forester selections & wild Turkey 101, for instance.
But a big hotel bar like the one at restaurant Revolution has a pretty wide selection of everything. Large bar with manly wood features is able to lean into it a little more
