National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program is a roaring success

More than two years after President Joe Biden pledged to build 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations throughout the United States only seven are operational across four states.

The Washington Post reported Friday on the sluggish pace the allocated $7.5 billion in infrastructure funds have been put to use.
The bulk of the funds, $5 billion, are to go toward building fast chargers along major interstates - what's being called the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure or NEVI program.
To satisfy the federal program's requirements, chargers must be built at least every 50 miles over major highway routes and be operational 97 percent of the time.
They also must take credit card payments and certain components must be made domestically.

Additionally, states must submit proposals to the Biden administration for approval, solicit bids for construction and then can award the funds.
quote:
So after the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was passed in November 2021, only seven charging stations are operational.
They are in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Hawaii and New York and offer 38 spots for cars to charge.
Twelve additional states have been awarded contracts for construction to begin, while another 17 states haven't even submitted proposals.
quote:
'I think a lot of people who are watching this are getting concerned about the timeline,' Alexander Laska, deputy director for transportation and innovation at the center-left think tank Third Way told The Post.
Nick Nigro, founder of Atlas Public Policy, told the newspape that some of the delays are to be expected.
'State transportation agencies are the recipients of the money,' he told The Post. 'Nearly all of them had no experience deploying electric vehicle charging stations before the law was enacted.'
'I expect it to go much faster in 2024,' Nigro added.
If Republicans take back full control of Congress and also the White House - some of these programs could see a backslide.
Biden's challenger, former President Donald Trump, has been openly antagonistic toward the Democrat's green agenda.
In mid-February at a campaign stop in the battleground state of Michigan, Trump said that Biden 'ordered a hit job on Michigan manufacturing' with mandates to move the American car industry away from gas guzzlers toward EVs.
Electric road to nowhere

Even if this does happen, pretty good odds that these fast chargers will be absolute crap.
Hopefully this program is one of the first to get nixed when Biden is shown the door.

Well, that's helpful.

Of the 7.5 billion (much like Ukrainian aid) the majority of it won't leave the Beltway.

Cash for clunker-charger ports

...then there was that chinese fire drill in the middle of that raging snow storm. You know the one with all the EV's stalled and gathered around those inoperable EV recharging stations. Apparently someone forgot to tell those EV owners charging your electric car in extreme low temps doesn't work very well, or even at all.
People couldn't charge their Tesla's so they just threw up their hands and walked away........in the middle of a 'whiteout' raging snow storm.
.....but but but Donald Trump is a meany.

I don't recall reading anything about the federal government building/financing gas stations back in the early 1900s.

frick a EV. The only reason they push this shite is because of lobbyists in DC and kickbacks for everyone involved with this scheme.

Electric vehicles chastised using electricity made from natural gas and coal plants. And stored in batteries made with environmental toxins made from strip mines in 3rd world countries.

You don't have to go back to the early 1900s. They are still funding them today.
Fossil-fuel subsidies surged to a record $7 trillion last year as governments supported consumers and businesses during the global spike in energy prices caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the economic recovery from the pandemic.
Our society cannot exist without O&G so it is a necessary cost

Not surprisingly, you completely missed the point.

No I think you got caught with your pants down and now making up stuff

Show me where the federal government subsidized gas stations in the early 1900s.
I won't wait as it didn't happen.

Are chargers universal or are they like phone chargers?

I think people will have to understand a fully electric vehicle is for short trip driving only and needs to be charged at home.
Long live the internal combustion engine

Because that money goes to pad peoples pockets, not actually do any work.
If subsidies end, this industry is fricked.
