Way south of you, about 45 miles SW of Munich. My wife comes from Thüringen. How long you been here?

I did order the gladiator (and my wife’s wrangler before that) so I suppose you are correct. I just quickly checked new inventory at the dealer I use and all the new vehicles on their lot are automatic
I’m about to need to replace wife’s wrangler and she will insist on a manual. She’s a good woman

What’s really messed up- and you would know better than i would- is that i bet they still tack on an extra few hundred dollars, or even an extra couple thousand bucks- for the automatic transmission.. when in fact the automatic transmission is now the de facto standard option anyway, yet they still charge more for it .

A coworker had a gladiator that caught on fire. Apparently Jeep has issues with the clutch plate overheating and catching on fire.

I had a 67 c10 with a 3 speed on the column and a 292 inline 6 cylinder. Tank behind the seat. Then went to a 4 speed standard in a Ford Ranger. I had been driving for 5 years before I had an automatic.

Since January this year. In fact our container from the US just arrived yesterday. Easter 2024 will mostly be unpacking boxes. We are glad to be here though and plan to stay for a long time.

My 76 Bronco has a 302 and a 3 on the tree. It’s an absolute blast to drive. I’m going to rebuild all the linkage and bushings to get rid of the slop. Folks used to put in floor shift conversion kits when the columns would wear out but I’m keeping it on the column.

I think Ram still offers them in 3/4 and 1 tons. Last one I bought I found in Tomball and got my local dealer to transfer it. 2016 3/4 Laramie with a 6 speed.
Edit. A quick google search debunked that. I don't see where they offer it anymore. Stopped in 2019.

This is a dumb comment.
I love most of the modern options available these days but no automated transmission provides the same level of control and enjoyment that a manual does. They just don't compare. If you just want to be a passenger (nothing wrong with that as many dont like driving) nothing wrong with an automated transmission.

In the last 5 years, I've noticed more and more trucks having autos. At work, we ship tankers everyday, all day. Sometimes the drivers ask me if they can leave the truck and I load it later. Sure. I get in there to move them and its an automatic. I guess I'm too "old school" and don't see the advantage of an auto in a semi. I like shifting gears I guess. More control.

They're more fuel efficient and easily integrated into the control scheme of the vehicle. Manuals introduce the option for the human (who may well be an idiot) to make decisions, which reduces overall efficiency and in turn increases emissions.
I've always had a manual vehicle. My truck has an automatic and I hate it when towing. It finds a way to make bad decisions. Upshift right as I'm getting to a hill. Upshift right when I'm getting ready to stop and need the braking. The vehicle can't predict what's about to happen, and the human can. That single factor is what makes people hate automatics and what doesn't get accounted for in the design.

Starting your kid off with a manual transmission: 1. makes them think about driving moves; 2. gives them a boost in self confidence, and 3. prevents their friends from trying to borrow the ride.

My brother was in Augsburg for a couple of years in the late- 80s. He always spoke glowingly of his time there.

Happy Easter and welcome to Germany and Niedersachsen. Down here we have it a lttle better regarding travel: Austria in 40 minutes, Italy in 3 hours, Switzerland in 1, etc. Asia is one flight away. But you're close to the sea, and Hamburg is a really cool city to visit. Berlin isn't far from you either.
I don't know how your German is, but you can't underestimate the importance of being able to understand what's going on around you. The Volkshochschule is a great resource for this. Is your wife German?

I still got an old S-10 and a 1500 Dodge, both with 5 speeds, my newly licensed son learn to drive with. Started with getting out in the field and back roads. Got my girls now doing it.
