bet less than 1/4 of the registered users here know how to drive a stick shift. First ride was a 3 on the tree

So was mine 67 Chevy 3 on the tree and gas tank behind the bench seat.

Today a stick shift would be a great way to avoid a car jacking.

I’m in the market. Told them must have an actual key to turn the ignition. Not looking for a key fob who spends every second of its life blasting a constant signal. Stupidest thing ever, who wants that in their front pocket?

Tractors not trucks but just bought 9 Mack trucks and took a tour of their plant.

Technically, they offer one version that is truly manual. Even more technical, their auto transmission tractors gear like the are manual.

Hard to find a manual tractor driver under 30 now.

Also, took their battery truck on the test track. $600k bag of shite.

A 5 speed is now the best anti theft device on the market.

Learned to drive (when I was 10) in a 1972 Volkswagen Thing with a 4-speed, on our farm.

1980 Jeep pickup with an extremely long wheelbase.

It had a long shift throw and a clutch you practically had to stand on. I operated deuce and 1/2s in the military that were easier to drive.

The beauty of it is, I can drive ANYTHING today.

I had an aunt that always drove manual transmission vehicles when I was growing up. I always thought that looked like a lot of work.

I learned to drive in a 1947 Chevy truck with a stick shift. Later in a 1968 Ford truck with 3 on the tree. Been in Germany for almost 36 years and never owned an automatic. Since then I've only driven automatics in rental cars in the States. I'll never buy an automatic...

It's really no work once you've gotten accustomed to it. It becomes "automatic".

It comes to where you don't even think about it. Sorry it would interfere with you checking your instagram account while you're driving, so it's not for you

My first 3 vehicles were manuals. I even had a full-sized Dodge Ram that was a manual.

It's been probably 15 years since I've regularly driven one. It would probably take me a few minutes to get used to it again

I'm shopping for a new truck right now and using the Carmax, Autotrader, etc apps and the very first box I'm checking is for the manual transmissions. It's sad how few cars/trucks on there have it.

Eta: as of this morning, 5372 automatics, 72 manuals.

It takes literally that, minutes, to get right back into the swing of things after it's been a while since you last drove a manual.

The fun part is going from a 18-speed semi to a 6 speed four wheeler.

When I was younger, I usually bought manuals because they were cheaper. It was what I grew up driving, so they didn't bother me. It seems like they are just about extinct other than in sports cars and Jeeps.

Correct.. But when i say ‘special order’, i mean good fricking luck trying to find a Wrangler on a dealer lot that is equipped with a manual transmission.. Very few and far between.. They might refer to the stick as ‘standard equipment’, but in reality the automatic is pretty much the default option .
