I'm happy people are upset about MBB

FWIW, I'm happy and relieved that people are upset about the state of the MBB program. It shows people still care. With a good team, MBB can be one of the most exciting college sports to support. We finally got a taste of what that's like with Wade after so many dark years post-Brady with Johnson and Jones.
It's okay to be upset about how the Wade thing was handled by the administration- it personally felt like a stab in the back. I was at that Iowa St. first round loss and it was truly depressing knowing what was to come.
I think we need to make sure our anger and disappointment aren't misplaced, though. It's okay to be mad about the Wade firing while appreciating McMahon and the current players. In the grand scheme of things, we now know that the program got away relatively unscathed but at the time, the severity being discussed was akin to the SMU death penalty. Nobody wanted to touch LSU MBB with a stick. This was clear with the entire roster (initially) hitting the portal. I think we should appreciate the risk McMahon took in coming here and especially the players that stayed or came in. I'm disappointed at the NIT (especially a first round loss) and this shouldn't be the goal, but understand this is progress and a rebuild from essentially nothing. I'm waiting to see what McMahon does in make-or-break year 3 before deciding if he's the man for the job but the program has trended positively and it deserves a chance.

100% agreed....but sure you will get downvoted a lot. People do not want to accept that WW, while a very good coach, cheated "stupidly" and got caught. LSU Admin had no choice. This "well it's legal now" stuff is just BS. The fact the NCAA linked Basketball to football violations left us no choice.

LSU admin had no choice cause creepy Les and that lying bitch were about to ruin our football program. Wade was the sacrificial lamb

WW was to blame, not LSU nor SW

Im not sure how someone being fair about all this can say this. Considering we have an example of how other universities handled similar situations

Actually we were discussing this earlier in another thread. There are a small handful of folks here who really care about basketball and if you happen upon a thread that might give one the impression that there is a lot of passion for hoops.
There isn't....if you are outside the tiny threads where the topic is discussed here there is little or no passion or interest or knowledge of LSU hoops relative to other sports around.
I tell this story all the time, but for about the last 20 years and this is true and very consistently so...from time to time over that period I would be at a sports bar or a restaurant during a time an LSU basketball game was on - and the game would be about to start and it wasn't on any t.v. - at a Baton Rouge sports bar or restaurant mind you. So inevitably I'd go ask them to put the game on and almost every time...they'd say "what game". this happened more times than I could count. And it think gives you a good idea of the apathy.

You don't know the supporters of Wade. I have been to nearly all of lsu men's and women's home games since 2009. I have been to double digit away games including tournament games.
I support Wade because he knows how to win. I am sad that LSU may never get back to the consistency and ncaa tournament appearance record that Wade had in my lifetime.
I am glad McMahon did better this year. But he will lose a lot of experience and production from this team that was not close to a ncaa bid.
Will McMahon be able to use the portal effectively to build a brand new team each year? I don't know that he has the backing and skills to do it. I hope so. The coaches that are able to do it are few and far between.

Let me tell you this, I was on a work trip to Baltimore area in early 2022 with a new thing I was working and my co-worker and I went to have some beers and apps prior to our flight back. I had the server turn on LSU MBB game. We lost to Arky unfortunately.
Not completely related man, but this is what MBB fans do.

Exactly! All the negativity and trashing of the MBB program has little to do with being passionate. It's about rantards being rantards. You see it after a baseball loss and that program is in great shape.
You have a bunch of underwear, sofa jocks who just like to bitch about everything while claiming anyone who doesn't accepts mediocrity. They don't know nor do they care about the realities of the program. They think demanding unconditional excellence in LSU sports makes up for the lack of excellence in their own lives. They are overcompensating for something.

I think its just a largely apathetic fan base because its never really had a consistent winner to build a new fan base....and wade was finally doing that, winning, recruiting blue chips, and invigorating the fan base by engaging them, he just kind of got it. So it was disheartening to see LSU piss that away when they really didn't have to. Made even worse when most of the allegations weren't even from his time here, yet dumbasses continue to believe it was.
McMahon may build a winner here, who knows (I have my doubts he's built for this era of college athletics) but I think the men's basketball fan base has just grown tired of the continued promise of a slow build. It's just a program that has struggled to gain sustained momentum for most of its existence.
Then you also have a segment of r tards that view MBB as competition to baseball for whatever reason so they refuse to support it, I don't really know why this is a thing

100% true but these things usually don't go hand in hand on The Rant. People tend to pick a side.

I'd like to believe that we have an athletic department that can and should field consistently competitive teams in all of these sports. As well as the fanbase to support.

And what exactly happened? Will wade just got suspended for 6 games and a show clause lol ? Once again stop trying to act like we were gonna get the death penalty. They weren’t gonna fricking dropped the bomb on us for something that’s been legal now for a few years. It’s like trying to arrest someone for smoking weed back in the day in Colorado

There’s no plan or vision for basketball. We hire the cheapest guy we can find and hope it works. The highest profile coach we’ve ever hired was Trent Johnson, think about that.
