I'm in Jax, I should check it out. Apparently it's only a 2.5hr drive...or 14.5hr flight.

I lived in Black Mountain for a while. Now that I don't, I will concur with SL that it is a fine place to visit.

Living here is great. We have a ton of great restaurants, school, lots of things to do, great golf and a great mixture of people and it's only one hour and 45 minutes away from LSU

For beach destinations, Fort Morgan is super underrated imo

Texas is so southern that my ancestors were basically all ex confederates who were so disappointed in the result of war of northern aggression they left everything they knew behind to come to Texas.

i don't mind calling everything east of 35 in Texas the "south" but Terlingua wasn't even founded till the late 1800s AND it's by Big Bend which is definitely not the south.

I don’t see West Monroe, list is junk. We now have a sports complex, about 40 hotels for some reason and a QT gas station right next to a roundabout off the interstate that is nearly impossible for 18 wheelers to get out of.

They have really transformed themselves after Katrina. It's pretty impressive.

Has it? I haven't been to Biloxi in a long time, but that's good to hear. We usually took the extra couple of hours to go to Gulf Shores instead because the beaches were nicer. If it's as improved as you say maybe we'll go there for our next beach trip. My son hasn't been to the beach yet, we were planning on taking him for the first time this summer.

It’s still not a beach destination…go to Fort Morgan. There’re beaches, but you need a boat to go up a river, or head out to Cat/Ship/Horn islands.

There are sailing camps at BWYC/PCYC/LBYC. Institute for Marine Mammal Studies runs a great camp too.

The article published on March 9, 2024 mentioned the beaches and art scenes that can be found all along the Coast.

I guess this was decided by folks who have never visited? When Mississippians, including those from the coast, "go to the beach," it is in LA (lower Alabama).

When locals say ‘the beach’ they mean Smugglers Cove on Cat Island.

Fort Payne Alabama should be nowhere on this list. Now if you said guntersville, maybe. Even albertville. But not fort Payne. I would also think Huntsville should be before fort Payne. Fort Payne is just a place to pass through to get to Chattanooga.

This is true. Or Florida
Only because the water is nicer. Gulf Shores and Pensacola have nothing else to do but Beach.
Gulf Coast has so much more to offer for entertainment and nice beaches.
