Do you know anyone that actually got in trouble for skipping jury-duty summons?

Let's hear your stories.

No, but I know plenty of people who have ignored them.

I did 20 years in the federal pen over it. Just go and get your 12 dollars a day or whatever it is.

I know a scum bag who paid someone to show up for him while he was on a vacation in Italy- got caught and had to do 500 hours of community service.

Why did he even have to do that? Every jury summons I've ever had let you work around a vacation. Dude wrecked himself for no reason?

I've been registered to vote for almost 39 years and I have never had a summons for any kind of jury duty. I'm not sure how that's possible.

I forgot, called and got another summons the following month and was dismissed.

The town I live in sends a cop to your house to hand you the summons so you can't say you never got it in the mail.

Add this to the reasons i don't answer the door and check the cameras first.

What jury summons? I have never received a jury summons.

Yes, a judge had the skipper sit in his court, in the front row, for the length of his service.

No but I've heard of people getting them delivered via certified mail to prove receipt. To be honest, the judge and prosecutors don't want someone there who's going to be a pain in the arse so you'll probably get dismissed for any halfway decent reason. Just be aware that the judge isn't going to say "oh ok well that's fine" if you say some bullshite

It really comes down to your county/parish and whether or not they have good turnout for the juror pool. The county I live in doesn't persue failure to appear for juror duty because they never have issues filling the spots. If/when that becomes a problem I imagine they will crack down on it. They're also pretty lenient on dismissals. Pretty much any reason will do.
At least this is what the DA told me the last time I had jury duty.

Well, about 15 years after not being a Shelby Co, TN resident, I continued to have summons sent to my parents' house. I called them and asked why. I was registered to vote in a different county, owned a home in a different county, etc. They said they only update their rolls every 10 years (bullshite). I asked what exact recourse they'd have in the chance my parents weren't living there to give me notice of the summons, like what do they do if people ignore them. Guy at the clerks office said they don't do anything because enough people do show up.
Service also isn't valid by standard mail, so there's nothing they can do to enforce a summons sent by snail mail.

In New Orleans they come by snail mail. Just toss it since it's not sent registered letter and needs to signed for, so "I didn't get it-----prove me wrong".

I got my last summons deferred a couple of times, but finally served in March 2023.

I’ve been called 4 ( four ) times here in baton rouge, 19th jdc. I do not want to be called ever again.

When I was participating in the jury selection, the judge had bench warrants written up for folks that did not show.
I assume if there's enough responders, they won't actively go looking for someone. But if you get pulled over for speeding (or anything) and you have a bench warrant, you're taking a ride in the back of a cruiser.

They got me when I was mowing the lawn. Also, the cop who delivered it is my neighbor. Rat bastard.
