On the surface that seems like a weird decision. Did they say why?

Never understood teams not taking the opportunity to get extra experience, especially some type of tournament experience.
And with a new Coach too. Lame.

Not to compare the two programs in any way, but UNC did the same thing last year. They considered the NIT to be beneath them. Of course, UNC is in a much better position to say that than the Black Bears.

Let's celebrate the MM success. Other teams had to quit so LSU could make the NIT. Way to go MM!

Beard is also probably trying to get a head start on picking up transfers from schools that did not make a tournament

It’s the equivalent of opting out of the Liberty Bowl. The players have been working since October and probably would rather rest than play in meaningless tournament. People don’t like hearing that, but it’s the truth.

So if they opt out, does the NIT still take two auto bids from the SEC?

Basically Beard is rebuilding this team from the ground up. It won't be recognizable next year. There's no reason to get these guys more time together because they won't be together when practice starts in October

Woooo we in the not good enough tournament cause a team that has a better basketball program doesn’t want to be in . We should rejoice!

LSU should take the cue and opt out, too. NIT is not where LSU needs to be. Season over.
