What kind of responsible adult would let someone like that anywhere near kids?

I think it's more likely that the people who hired him jumped at the chance to show how progressive they were.

During the call, Soprano stated that there are specifically male and female floors but continued to give evasive answers when explicitly asked about Bowman’s level of access.
Partial transcript as follows:
SOPRANO: “I have only females that go to the female floor.”
YARBROUGH: “Is that specific person allowed to go to the female floor? If they identify as a female, are they allowed on that floor?”
SOPRANO: “Sir, these are not questions that we can ask our staff specifically in the way that you’re asking them. I can assure you that we are following all the state and federal laws.”
Yarbrough further asked unambiguously, “Is Molly Bowman allowed on female floors?”
“I have an employee by the name that you have stated; that’s as much as I can share with you right now” Soprano responded.
When Yarbrough pressed further, Soprano doubled down on declining to answer precisely.
“I am just telling you that I’m not going to give you specifics about any employees,” Soprano stated.
That's very telling. And I get that the employee may not be able to give out information about another employee, but when we abandon all logic and reason then it stands out as looking bad. Because you can't say "only females are allowed on the floor" but then not answer if this particular employee is allowed there or not. He is clearly not a female (regardless of what he identifies as), so being allowed on that floor isn't allowed. Yet she can't even answer the question even if she wanted to because she knows they are letting a biological male onto the floor simply because he decides to claim to be a female.
It's crazy clown world bullshite and I hope calling out the idiocy helps the pendulum swing back into a normal direction finally.

Yarbrough said Soprano “dodged” several additional questions, but finally told him that a trans female was allowed on the dorm hallways, and the dorm rooms are not locked.
They really are coming for your children.

The whiplash will come hard for these perverts.
Doesn't help anyone they've harmed until now, but people are finally growing weary of this nonsense.
Group hysteria is always ugly after the fact.

May just be wishful thinking but there seems to be more and more pushback happening. Just need more people in there situations to call out the insanity and likely 90% of the population will agree with you. There will be some very vocal detractors but I still think they’re the absolute minority in reality.

Will it though?
Was Molly fired? Is Space Camp (with an extensive waiting list) losing money from this? Is the media reporting the sentiments of Clay or painting this story as a nothing-burger?

There's a reason why there is a "+" at the end of their alphabet gibberish. It's for the MAPs. The freaks are merely trying to normalize child rape. That's the focus of the trans movement. Moderates on here can mock and laugh all they want. Buts that's it.

Can you fire the person for simply claiming to be trans?

Now that this is public I bet things start happening

Several representatives have made public comments speaking out against this. It's getting legs.

These freaks gravitate toward kids for the same reason Willie Sutton gave for robbing banks: "That's where the money (children) is".

More important than anything a rep or senator can say is how parents discuss and decide how they'll handle this stuff, which, if you live near any suburban area and have little kids, you're going to encounter.
And by that I mean how your wife is going to handle it when she feels the social pressure to not make waves about some trans person in some role of authority/supervision over your children.
Start talking to her if you haven't. That's not a sexist thing, it's a recognition of the reality that all my buddies will be like "hell yeah yank them out of there" and hers will wring their hands at the thought of being deemed bigoted/unkind.

I doubt they did much of a background check, honestly. The pay is shite, they've struggled hiring, and they've been struggling with funding since before Covid. It took a nationwide fundraising campaign in early 2021 just to keep it afloat. The problems that led to that mess haven't just gone away. They're probably at the point where they hire what they can get.
ETA: Put it this way, in mid to late 2019, I knew a guy who applied for a custodial management position. It wasn't a janitor's job, he would have been over scheduling, ordering, planning breakdown and cleaning of displays, and a list of other shite. The pay was $20/hour for a job that was mainly second shift. Imagine what they pay the people doing the actual work. He was offered the job and declined.

You can’t, but in Alabama, you can be fired without any reason. She does have sexually explicit and vulgar social media posts if the center needs a reason.

I’ll be curious to see the outcome. I imagine our state politicians will be ridiculed by national media, and nothing will actually happen to push America away from dangerous ideology.

Background checks are useless since it'll only show if someone has been caught/convicted. If the person has been caught before they either aren't allowed to be around kids or won't apply because they know they can't pass.
The real way to prevent this garbage is to train those in charge how to spot the behaviors that lead to problems. They need learn how to spot the grooming behaviors that the pedophiles use to get the kids to where they want them to be vulnerable.
Pedos target outcast kids, choose a favorite, begin giving gifts, try to separate the kid from the group, then slowly start pushing the boundaries to see how far they can go.
It's a sad cycle, but it's up to the individual to be vigilant because most organizations are not willing to stand up and prevent obviously problematic individuals. To a certain extent the organization's hands are tied because of antidiscrimination laws.

I meant more of a background check as in checking their social media before hiring them. Would probably have trouble finding their account but if they are gonna be working with kids someone needs to check what they are posting on social media, especially if they look like this guy

Maybe it’s just because I live in SE Florida but this isn’t the reaction I normally see from the “mama bear” types, even the more liberal ones on other things. If it came to their daughter being in a room with a dude I’d bet my mortgage they’d drop all pretense and fight it.

I always wanted to go to that camp when i was a kid, but my parents weren't spending the money to send me there.
I wanted to send my kid there until we went make a trip there last summer for a tour.
Walking around there it felt like they were doing their best to ignore anything white male from Nasa that they could. There was women in space crap everywhere and diversity crap everywhere as well, just in your face with it. rainbow gay shite in the gift shop. It just seemed odd how much of it there was. Normally I just ignore it or simply take it for what it is. I don't mind reading about something signficant someone did, regardless if it's a woman or black person or whatever. who cares. I"m interested to learn about new things.
Space camp was going on at that time and seeing what most of the counselors looked like made my decision really easy that my kid wasn't going there.
I'll aslo add that the vast majority of the campers we saw walking around looked miserable to be there. Even my kids noticed it.

I think it’s going to be split by the states. When big red states like Florida and Texas push back the smaller ones follow suit.

Good if so.
I'll just say that in pretty much every community where women with money and status are, I see this phenomenon. Not to say they wouldn't ultimately make the right choice, but they feel the pressure. Watching conservative-minded Christian women black out their social media profiles for BLM was a watershed.
