Seems like the major airlines are up to at least one huge frick up per week now. Doors falling off, wheels falling off, and near misses on ground collisions.
Add that to the fact flying in general has become an exercise in physical and mental torture. My last flying experience in June of last year made me come to the conclusion our air transportation system in this country has ceased to function. The system is broken.
Week after next I’m traveling to Aurora, CO from north Alabama for a work conference. Total drive time is just over 19 hours, so a two day trip there and a two day trip back. I get a vehicle allowance, have a company fuel card, and get paid mileage. Needless to say, I’ve already mapped out my routes and booked hotels. My days of flying are, at least until trust in air travel is restored, over.

They clearly have cut back on maintenance, probably in favor of hiring a bunch of DEI staff.

They’re more worried about the tire being black than being functional

Might be DEI related
But people of all types seem to have gotten increasingly lazy and apathetic at their jobs since covid so mistakes will happen.

Maintenance issue, that's all.

Absolutely did.
Turkish Airline DC-10 lost a cargo door in flight due to a flaw in design. Killed everyone onboard. Two years earlier, an American Airlines DC-10 also lost a cargo door inflight.
I know a line mechanic that assisted with the replacement of a nose wheel assembly on a DC-9. The wheel separated on takeoff days later and went through the living room of a house. Spindle failed, wasn't an installation error, nor were there any injuries.

Not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. Tires bust all the time on landing, this one just happened to fall off after takeoff. Still plenty of tires left to make a safe landing.

All of those things happened before cell phones. Fatal crashes were also more common.
---Ergo, cell phones cause more plane crashes

I love the OT.
I was grumpy when I opened this thread.
I chuckled at 'tired' and 'retired', but 'you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel' forced me to shoot Fruit Loops all over my monitor and keyboard.
The whole first page is gold.
Worth it.

This stuff has probably always gone on,
Yep
I think most airline tires are retreaded up to half a dozen times.

Didn't NTSB just announce they are investigating and issue with a United flight and rudder peddles being stuck?
