One of the locations on their list is LSU's 250-acre golf course off Nicholson and Gourrier.

If anyone thinks it shouldn’t be here, you truly don’t have a brain. This would revitalize the area. It would give developers a reason to tie up the tiger land apartments and turn into a mixed use development next door as well and make LSU feel like a real college town instead of slums at every corner

Nothing like having a $300 million facility right next to Tigerland section 8 housing.

Not to be that guy BUT LSU has bought out the sections 8 and plan to redevelop it all.

Legit question for all of you construction minded baws around here, because I honestly don't know:

How hard is it to build something like this at the site of the golf course? With the proximity to the river and all the stuff we hear about with the sand boils and unstable soil, would this be a difficult undertaking given that some of the footprint would need to be underground/below grade? I'm sure there are challenges for this site that the new alex box didn't have to deal with. Would you just have to do more vertical construction than digging down? Asking because I legit don't know.

When they move to the new Pmac, going to assume that becomes one big parking garage?

Any actual plans to develop the space?

Gives them the option that didn't exist before of north endzone expansion. Not saying that will happen but without the PMAC there it is more feasible

The golf course is far enough away from the river that the river should not be a problem. If it were closer to River Rd. like some have suggested you run the risk of having all earthwork activities shut down during the spring months due to river levels.

Gotcha. I guess I didn't realize that it was further away from the river than the old Alex Box was. I remember they had problems there from time to time.

Part of Nicholson Drive to play key role in plans to transform Baton Rouge into entertainment destination

quote:

BATON ROUGE - While it may not seem like it now, the stretch of Nicholson Drive from LSU to downtown could soon become an entertainment destination.

"Last year, community leaders came together to work on a joint music entertainment study to really connect a series of assets in our community that if put together could create enormous opportunity," said Baton Rouge Area Foundation President Chris Meyer.

Those assets include LSU and its proposed arena, the River Center and downtown, then on to Memorial Stadium. The thing that quite literally connects them is Nicholson Drive.

"We see these opportunities to connect all these different projects which really can be transformative for the community. Let's connect them purposefully. Let's make sure they're complementary and they tie together so that we elevate quality of life for all of our residents and attract visitors to Baton Rouge."

Last year, Commercial Properties Realty Trust purchased about 40 acres of rundown land on Nicholson Drive with hopes to eventually transform it into something more welcoming to visitors.

"This is the front door of Baton Rouge. Visitors who come here for a game day experience, a future concert or a convention—this really can be the boulevard to connect into the university."

The current PMAC is actually closer to the levee than the LSU golf course is to the levee.

I'd like to see something like this. I'm not an architecture/engineer so take it for what it's worth.

It'd also be nice if they extended the portion of W. Parker between Nicholson and Burbank and used the new road to access this new development. Helps with road connectivity, contraflow, etc.

1. Lawn w/ upgraded entrance to Alex Box
2. New Arena
3. Hotel
4. Basketball Practice Facility
5. Dedicated Arena Parking Deck
6. Restaurant/Bar Space w/ apartments and/or condos. Additional parking garages
7. Reconfigured LSU Golf Course (either reduced to 9 hole or somehow keep 18)
8. Clubhouse w/ Driving Range
9. Convert to greenspace or keep as part of the golf course. Maybe something like an amphitheater would be cool?

They may continue to use the PMAC for gymnastics since Friday nights are when their meets are and that's a popular night for concerts, so there may be conflicts at the new multi-purpose arena.

Zinn said on Moscona's show that the lease on the new building will guarantee LSU scheduling priority and use.

After the new building is built they will gut and remodel the PMAC. It will not have 15,000 seating capacity (if any) like it does now

I remember when they tore down all the old houses there years ago. Flatted everything, but nothing ever happened after that. I think that was when they were still trying to build a street car/trolly to connect downtown to LSU.

I like that, but they should take your #6 and do something similar to what Iowa State is doing between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum.

LSU could connect Alex Box and the new basketball arena like this:

yeah, an area like the Battery Atlanta centered around the Box and new arena would be awesome, especially if you're trying to make the new arena a concert/entertainment destination.

edit: and they could even build a pedestrian crossover for nicholson to utilize more parking for football/print money at the entertainment district from all the visiting fans who are too lame to walk up to tailgates.

U2 has come to Baton Rouge before.

The PMAC used to host a lot of concerts before the 2000s.
