My wife is black and comes from an above average wealth family. She hasn’t shown a previous interest in skiing because she hates the cold.

Did her parents have an interest in skiing? And were they wealthy when they were around 6 years old which is when great athletes normally start their sport (at the latest) ? A lot of things are passed down through generations.

So you’re saying a black person might not have a desire to ski? Your white privilege is showing.

Take this out of context and stick the quote next to a picture of a random white man and they call him a fascist.

I’m WASP and I hate skiing. Too frickin cold and too much gravity and trees plus avalanches.

Its fun but it's definitely something you have to book an entire day for. And at the end I'm normally just happy if I don't tear an acl

There's a huge hippie snowboard population of poor young adults that figure how to snowboard 50+ times a year. They typically work at the resort or whatnot and shack up together.

If there's a will there's a way.

You also don't see many black people at the beach. Is it too expensive to go to a free beach?

Is it, maybe, because the colder, more snowy areas are closer to the poles, and thus those indigenous peoples had less melanin?

The mongols and plains Indians didn't have much of a surfing culture either.

I don't think you need 200 years of generational wealth to learn to ski

Came from lower middle class paycheck to paycheck family, I tried skiing a few times growing up and then one day started going more often when I was older. Today I go where I want when I want. No generational wealth necessary.

People of colour have been historically excluded from the sport,

How so? Most of this bullshite isn’t due to exclusion or racism but rather preference. Maybe black folk don’t have an interest in snow skiing.

I know a lot of poor/poor-adjacent people who ski a huge % of winter weekends in the midwest( )

Yep. It's more of a location/wealth issue than a race issue

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: we need more government-sponsored midnight skiing programs! This injustice cannot stand, people!

Replace Jackson Square and Saint Louis cathedral with a giant ski mountain for the BIPOC.

Baseball is one of the most accessible sports in the world. That's why Latin countries are so good at it.

Basketball the same.

How many black hockey players are there? And how many of them are from the united states?
