Wife and I are thinking of doing a long weekend. Which is the better trip? I do love old school country and it's history so I am leaning towards Nashville.

Nashville (lower broadway), not even close in my opinion.

Nashville and not even close . Memphis wasn’t bad pre Katrina . It’s a shite hole now

I fly to both fairly often as I have facilities in both cities.
Nashville is way better than Memphis, but for a weekend, there is plenty to do in Memphis as well. Downtown has the peabody, the pyramid, beale street etc etc.

Definitely Nashville. However, if you're only going for a couple of days, I'd probably go to Memphis as it is a few hours less travel time. Memphis has plenty to see and do for 2,3 days.

Both have direct flights from Nola and it’s like a 30-45 min difference. If driving yeah Memphis is 2 hours closer . Memphis has changed drastically. Sorta like Jackson Mississippi

I’ve done Nashville twice and love the museums (Johnny Cash), Hall of Fame, Ryman, Layla’s Bar, Legends Bar etc. all for the history. It’s an amazing place to to be where all the country music icons have once been.
We also love Bluebird Cafe. That in itself was worth the trip to hear the stories of the people that have been discovered in that hole in the hole cafe.
Also enjoyed The Listening Room and 3rd and Lindsley with the different songwriters to listen to how certain songs came about, what or where they were when they wrote certain songs.
Nashville is truly an amazing place for music lovers.

I lived in Memphis 7 years, there are no redeeming qualities that make it worth visiting unless you are a big Elvis fan.

If making it home alive is a goal of yours, I would lean towards Nashville over Memphis.

This. Lived there for 7 years myself and the absolute only reason we ever go back is to see some aging relatives.
Nashville is much better

Nashville is better in every objective metric but I hate the fake new west coast takeover of Nashville and would rather go to Memphis. Memphis has also been steadily improving for the last several years in terms of dining, nightlife, etc and has a lot of history. However Memphis has done a really poor job of maintaining its music scene and if old school country is your main thing, then definitely Nashville.

I miss the mid sized city feel of Nashville from not even that long ago (2014 or so).
I know that’s a decade ago but it sure has gotten much larger and sorta worn off its charm of being an oversized town with a lot of cool stuff.
Now it’s a big city with a big city and commercial feel.

Nashville is in the way to having Atlanta traffic. Their setup is even stupider than what Atlanta has.

I’m from Memphis area and live in Nashville now. If I never step foot in Memphis again I’d be fine with it. City is a cesspool.

I lived in Memphis for 5 years, and have visited Nashville 5 times. Downtown Memphis got better from ‘14 to ‘19, but has turned back to shite post Covid. I despise going back to that shithole for work.
The people who say there are things to do in Memphis for 2 days are lying. That’s as nicely as I can put it. I’d challenge someone to tell me one single thing more redeeming in Memphis than Nashville.
You may as well be comparing two different countries.

Nashville is crowded, but a lot safer than Memphis. You couldn’t pay me to go to Memphis.

But the DV. It restores my faith in that most of the TD community has no f@*ing idea what they're talking about.
