Richard Lewis, the darkly funny, perennially black-clad comedian and actor known for playing a semi-fictionalized version of himself on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” died Feb. 27 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 76.
His publicist, Jeff Abraham, said Mr. Lewis died after a heart attack. Mr. Lewis announced in April that he was retiring from stand-up comedy after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease about two years earlier and dealing with four “back-to-back-to-back-to-back” surgeries for his back, shoulder and hip.

RIP Mr. Lewis.
One of my favorite comedians of the 80s, 90s. Loved watching his standup, so self-deprecating and so funny.

One of the top Letterman guests back in the heyday of Late Night with David Letterman.
Leno, Seinfeld, and Lewis were killers every time they showed up.

If Curb is any indication of his personality, he's probably already telling God that one of the angels is "the one"

No disrespect, but he was looking pretty rough on Curb.

Hate this news.
Thanks for the laughs.

Fun fact: back in the late 90s, Candid Camera did a prime time special. In one segment, they had scoured the archives to see if anyone pre-famous had ever been caught in their net. Richard Lewis had as a high school student:

“Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,” David wrote in a statement Wednesday, shared by HBO. “He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

Damn RIP. Loved him in Curb
There’s an exchange between Larry and Richard Lewis at a wedding in season 10 or 11 where they have one of their classic back and forth a digging at each other, and Larry says “when are you gonna die already?” It was always a bit of a running joke once he survived the cancer and kidney failure

Wooo... I would've sworn he died like 10 years ago.

Yeah this one hurts but I knew it was coming soon. He looked so bad on the last couple of seasons of curb

I was going to post about that. I know that was just their style but I cringed pretty hard when Larry said that because RL looked really bad on there the last few years and it really seemed like this could happen any time. I only really got into him when I started watching Curb but he was great

He was fire at points in the late 80s through 90s. Looked decades older than his age by the first Curb series.
He burned his own candle pretty brightly. Most people who did as many recreational substances as he did were buried decades younger.
He managed to enjoy life for a very long time and was well loved by many people. Good job Richard. I think you made the most out of your 76 years.

RIP he's been a part of Curb since the beginning it feels like. Him and Bob Einstein both legends.
