I find it very hard to believe that she was out of the loop until that article was released.

I’m confused as why it being basketball only is a big deal. Aren’t the vast majority of basketball arenas around the country multi purpose venues?

What is an entertainment area? What do the Pelicans play in? Smoothie King is clearly a basketball arena but it hosts concerts. Is that an entertainment arena?

Not saying this new arena will be that big. Just using it as an example.

IF WE WERE SMART:

Of course getting input from all of the coaches using the facility.

But, heavily involve Mulkey throughout the entire process - from the site selection, design...This will keep her invested in the new facility, wanting to see it through, play a few seasons in the new facility...
it could extend her coaching career if we involve her.

This is why they aren’t getting rid of the PMAC.

The new arena will host entertainment shows & probably gymnastics & volleyball. Basketball will remain at the PMAC, which will eventually be renovated/rebuilt.

It makes sense honestly. Anyone that’s been to the PMAC for a game this year can see how they’re having a hard time keeping it up with 3 different sports going on at the same time.

Also a new arena hosting 3 sports teams at the same time doesn’t leave much room for anything else between November-March.

ETA: I wish Woodard would issue a statement clearing up some of the misconceptions & laying out their ideas.

She doesn't NEED to. She WANTS to.

Competitive edge I imagine being a big part of it.

Are you a moron? They're not building a new arena on campus and not paying basketball in it.

It won’t be on campus and the new arena isn’t for solely for basketball.

This shite right here is what makes tigerdroppings so hilarious to me. Who the frick are you to say what this multiple time national championship coach needs on a day-to-day basis? The amount of ego you have to have to say something like that is astronomical and I bet you don’t even realize it.

Y’all do realize that the women’s team has a practice gym right across the hall from the men’s practice gym, don’t you? Neither team practices everyday on the main court of the PMAC.

No coaches hold their practices every day in arenas like LSU is talking about building.

I dont think its being built any time soon. Its still very early in that phase right now. It won't be for at least probably another decade before they put a shovel into the ground.

Bottom line is doesn’t make fiscal sense to build a new arena for Basketball only.
Needs to be setup to have entertainment ability with fantastic sounds systems for entertainment ability.
Did the same thing here in Austin with their arena recently and they have more money than God.
Just makes sense.

Best tread lightly, she left Baylor when they didn’t name their new arena after her. Look it up, fact.

Ebr is not approving the wording of that agreement
Some concessions will have to be made
The old part of river center is terrible for concerts without significant upgrades
The new convention space is nice enough but Baton Rouge isn’t exactly a convention destination
