sounds like something other than milk if it was sired

Every "local" grocery stores I've been to in Mexico, the eggs are just on a shelf.
Europe as well. We want our eggs sparkly clean. The cleaning process removes a natural protectant off the outside of the shell that can allow bacteria to enter. Therefore, we need to refrigerate them. If we just left them alone like they do everywhere else, we wouldn't have to refrigerate.

Egg farmer tells me the processing is what makes them have to be refrigerated, breaks the protective membrane or something. Farm fresh eggs are fine long term at room temp. Unless you refrigerate them then you have to keep them refrigerated
Right.
My neighbor has chickens and their eggs just sit on the pantry shelf.
They are also amazing. They give us the surplus and they are so much better than store eggs. Deep orange yolks, great flavor, stick together in the pan so much better when cooking over-easy, etc. .
Their chickens live the life in a big yard eating bugs and whatever else. That is, until they get mauled occasionally by a fox or some other critter.

Fair life lasts longer without spoiling than regular milk. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing though
That chocolate milk tho...

All throughout Europe the milk is stocked on a shelf next to all the canned goods. This is extremely common everywhere in Europe.
You're talking about Parmalet ... and that's different. That's ultrapasturized and then boxed (hermetically sealed) in a mylar lined container.
You can buy that kind of milk all day at the Dollar Tree for $1.25 qt. We typically keep 15-20 gallons of it in our preps pantry just incase.
Fairlife ... I've actually toured their facility, and I drank it for a long time. (My Goddaughter's Husband was a big wig with them at the time and he gave me a book of coupons, I got hooked on the stuff.)
Fairlife and Parmalet are not the same.
Every community has a local milk producer. They usually distribute the best milk that has been low temp pasteurized. Ours is Hickory Hill and both their chocolate and whole white are amazing.

I've been a bit of a milk connoisseur my entire life ... started with the titties I'm told.

what's the big deal? who doesn't like to chew their milk?
Posted on 2/27/24 at 9:36 am to Gaggle
It doesn’t. Wife buys 12 packs from Sam’s. They stay room temp until she puts them 1-2 in the fridge to drink them cold.

Picked up a dozen eggs from a grocery store in Puerto Penasco about 15 years ago. Brought them back to the condo to cook breakfast for the crew . Living in the carton underneath each egg was at least one cock roach . ??

are we talking about the milk or the various fairlife protein shakes (ie Fairlife Nutrition Plan and Fairlife Protein Shake Powered by Core Power)? My impression is the milk product (ultrafiltered, pasteurized milk) has to be refrigerated, but the protein drink products are definitely shelf stable un-refrigerated for quite a long time until opened.

When I was in the Middle East, Fairlife made a milk that didn’t need refrigeration and had a shelf life of 6 months. It was super pastorized. Tasted like shite, even cold.
The Fairlife here in the states is different than the shite over there.

Who the hell would trust any milk that's been opened after 2 weeks. Most of them start smelling funny after ~5 days.

It's called "Bloom"
Unwashed eggs are good for 3 weeks on the counter and 3 months in the fridge.
I've heard of longer in the fridge, but most people go with 3 and 3

Ultra-pasteurized milk has been the norm in Europe for a long time. It is odd to see shelves of it sitting out in a grocery store though if you are 'Merican.

It was the top one, the milk

Also the expiration date is always
months away as opposed to days for regular milk.
It blew my mind in Switzerland how none of their dairy is refrigerated in the grocery stores. Milk, eggs, cheese, all of it.

I don't think it's refrigerated in the store.
