He can take a bunch of steps back to evaluate and then react once the offensive play is certain.

Our DBs played like outfielders last year and our DL actually ‘pass blocked’. It was insane.

To me he could have been a safety he could have been a ferocious safety blitzer.

59% of his snaps were either in slot coverage or rushing the passer

He was basically exactly that.

I don’t think the guy who gets paid 100M by LSU really cares if you’re tired of it

Not being a smartass, but do you want him as an inside linebacker or a coverage or pass rusher? I feel like you’ve made points for all of them in this thread

No shite. I never said he cares what I think, nor should he. I just don’t like the idea of that being a priority of where guys are playing.

Just based on the fact that you and Pirate King usually have the shittiest takes on this board, I'm going to agree with Kelly on this one.

NFL football is basically the same as college football, other than the players are better across the board. If we can put guys at the position they will play at the next level, that encourages MORE NFL-caliber guys to come play here. It gets them prepared for that level, they transition better.

If Perkins is best suited for the edge, that's where he will play next level. If there's a reason he wouldn't, it would eventually apply back to college, correct?

Well it is what it is. The coaches have to keep that in mind because these guys play here to get to the next level.

If a coach just says frick it, I don't care about your future career, that coach won't last long because he won't have any elite players to coach.

As fans we don't have to worry about that part of it, we want what's best for LSU to win but as a coach, especially in today's game, you just can't be that narrow minded

Using him like the cowboys do Persons is the best for everyone. Our D coordinator specializes in coaching inside lbs. let the dude coach him up.

This is where I am at, he is a linebacker, he is not quite a safety. A tweener like him will do himself millions of dollars of favors by learning to be a linebacker.

He was not awesome at ILB at any point last season. Kevin Minter, Kendall Beckwith, and Devin White were great at ILB. Perkins is no where near any of those guys right now.

He was invisible for most of the season, and really wasn’t awesome at any position. Maybe our expectations were too high after his surprisingly good freshman season.

I said it after week 3 in the season. He needed to be back in the middle. He was our best MLB. Unfortunately he was also our best edge rusher and nickel defender. Can’t play every position lol

What are all of my shitty takes? You can find much worse takes than mine. If you look directly above this post, there is a guy saying Perkins was our best MLB last year.

The point is his title doesn’t matter.

ILB doesn’t mean what it use to and he certainly wasn’t used as ah ILB, even by the modern responsibilities.

I don’t think he should do that. But I don’t think a coach should make decisions based on where a player will play at the next level if it affects LSU’s ability to win games.

I get it, I just said I’m tired of hearing it. I would rather him just say that he thinks that is where Perkins is best suited on this team and leave it at that, I don’t need to hear about the NFL.

This isn’t just about Perkins. If we weren’t putting the 5 best offensive linemen on the field because we were worried about what position they will play in the NFL, I would get annoyed at that as well.
