I say it all of the time. 5lbs of shrimp with the fixings can feed three folks. Easy.
Yep. I just told the wife we're heading to the seafood lot in Westwego on Friday morning to buy 10 lbs. and I'll boil 5 lbs. of them with the other 5 lbs. being peeled and frozen for later use.
If my freezer wasn't so full right now, I'd get the usual 25 lbs. but don't have the room.

You know what I can't get past? The meat yield of bugs. 1# of boiled legit gets you about 2.5 - 3 oz of tail meat. Shrimp is far and away a better deal and just as tasty and versatile.

I paid $12/lb. on Friday in Austin
'Regular' price outside Austin last year was $10.99 so not like you paid much of a premium. I've only seen them at $15.99 so far so none for me yet.

You lose 35% in the head and 15% in the tails and peelings. 50% total yield.
I bought 700 pounds to put up in September. With their own freezer to sleep in.
Hope I didn’t seal my fate iif we have a big hurricane. I can’t leave my shrimp .

Tons of idiots will be gorging themselves on crawfish Friday. Most probably live paycheck to paycheck. Count me out

Why are you paying so much for shrimp?
Usually get that size around $2 a lb +/- in Hammond

I’m curious how many sacks are being wasted right now due to high prices. Can’t be they are moving em fast enough to keep them alive.
LOL
This sums up people’s lack of knowledge on the industry right here.

Boiled shrimp and crabs are way better anyway

Been saying whoever marketed crawfish a few decades ago was a genius. Shrimp are much cheaper and delicious also.

Just go catch crawdads at the creek

Crawfish is just a Louisiana staple. Shrimp is good but everyone goes crazy over crawfish no matter the price. Every boiling house was sold out every day this past week. Y’all can say what you want but the public continues to buy crawfish.

I'm not spending 8 bones a pound to eat something that crawls out of a frickin' mud puddle.

I love Crawfish more than just about anybody, but I ain’t messing with it yet this year. I’ll probably break down pretty soon and suck it up.

I thought you said less live pounds were going to boilers though? So of course they'll sell out if receiving a third of the sacks.

There is but they are still selling out of whatever they can get their hands on.
Posted on 2/26/24 at 5:36 pm to Motorboat
Completely understandable I don’t even think about eating them right now. It’s not good for anyone right now. I’m thankful for the people that buy crawfish right now.
