Who cares? Actually let me rephrase that: why should people care?

You are literally too stupid for words if you say or believe that. There are ALWAYS strings attached to federal funding. ALWAYS

Don't the people that qualify for this program already get food stamps?

It’s not like this is even fiscally smart. The feds will just give our share to other states.
That's one way to look at it.
But on the other hand, maybe this will push people to get jobs instead of relying on "gub'ment" handouts.

Landry must be and idiot. From what I’ve seen at the local seafood market, this money would have went straight to the crawfish farmers. Could have killed two birds with one stone.

The Feds don’t “give this money away”. It comes with administrative strings and responsibilities. This includes the investment of state dollars (usually 30%) to administrate the program and audit its performance. If the Feds determine that a state didn’t properly administer the program then they can force the state the repay the entire amount of federal dollars. Note that administration requires hiring additional civil servants with state benefits and retirement. At the end of the day it’s a significant long term investment. In this case, SNAP should technically provide food benefits to anyone in a qualified low income home. What isn’t clear is where this picks up in relation to SNAP.

Was this on the same day he asked for federal funds for crawfish farmers
He declined the covid related "temporary" summer supplemental nutrition program (that is, shockingly, now becoming permanent) last week.
What the frick was he thinking seeking federal disaster relief for actual fricking productive taxpayers?

You don’t really believe that, do you?

Business owners should have savings and insurance. I know normal farmers carry crop insurance, so I'm sure crawfish farmers can get similar insurance for their product.
I disagree with both, but it's still a false equivalency that brings nothing to the discussion at hand.

Bull crap. It won’t put a dent in dependency
Maybe they will move to a state that takes the federal money and suck off their tit.
Or die of starvation. (LOL, none of these people are actually starving. There are few programs more rife with corruption and fraud than food stamps.)

It seems ridiculous to not take federal funds
Why is it in a state's best interest to make itself more comfortable for those on welfare?
Wouldn't it be better to offer less programs and less free money, thus encouraging those people to either: 1) get off of the programs, or 2) move to a more welfare friendly state.

Jobs aren't like acorns, you can't just go outside and pick one up off the ground, someone has to actually offer you one. If you're functionally illiterate, you're much less likely to be offered a job.
Should these people be wards of the state for life?
Hunger is a great motivator.

Thos is the right direction. Few states, if any, are on the government dole as far as percent of budget as Louisiana.
