My rat trap in my yard caught him. Anyone know what kind it is? Venomous?

OT but do those rat traps actually work? I have a whole coven of rats underneath my backyard shed and this set up would be great if it worked.

Yes, but sometimes you have to install them in pairs.
Had rats in my attic a few years ago.
Set a large spring trap and the little fricker was able to take the bait. Installed TWO traps the next night.
I heard them both go off. SNAP!...SNAP! He evaded the first one but the second one got him.

Definitely a water snake. I think a plain bellied, but kind of tough to tell from this picture. He's dark.
