The PAC 12 has two teams

Yeah I’m not sure what I’m missing here.
There are only 4 major conferences

The quarterfinals should still be on campus but I digress since its a TV product anyway.

How wonderful that the champ from the SEC will get the same benefit as the winner of the AAC.

Big 12 is barely hanging on as a "major" and the ACC might not exist by then.
Best solution is keep it at 4 but that doesn't make the money machine brrrrrr more

This is going to force access to the CFP for teams who wouldn't go 6-6 in the SEC.
Its the equivalent of giving one CFP team a bye while another one is going to end up playing a 10-2 LSU or Bama team in the first round who only have losses to UGA and Texas or whatever.

The workaround I see is that the American Athletic Conference champion is gifted a 5 seed next year, right?

Trying to limit the number of SEC teams that'll make it.

It's not the Power 5 Champions. It's the 5 highest ranked Conference champions. This could (and will) include Group of 5 Conferences.

Does highest ranked mean ranked in the top 25 or what if only 4 are tanked in top 25 do they roll the scale down to the 40th ranked team?

As it should. As long as everyone is in the same division they should get equal chances. Will they win it? Probably not. But, at least there won't be any claiming to be national champs like UCF did when they got snubbed.

You think you got SEC dominance now...watch this

Exactly. Everyone who thinks this will open the door for schools that didn't get a chance before are going to be in for a rude awakening. A Georgia or a Bama for example that needed to suffer upsets in the regular season to keep out of the playoff will now be in. Good luck knocking them out again. The TCU near Cinderella run was most possible in the 4 team format. Now they would need to knock off multiple top teams in order to even get the honor to get the doors blown off of them by a Georgia

So dumb that they are doing 5 auto-bids. It should be 3 or 4 at most. Realistically it should be zero.

I agree, but if you told me going forward it will basically be five SEC teams, three B1G teams, three other conf champs, and one other leftover, that is not bad.

The best "chance" that a G5 school ever had was in the BCS era when they could potentially convince people that they belonged in the championship because they were the only undefeated team. A G5 school will never win 4 consecutive games vs top 12 ranked "P5" schools.

What happens if Notre Dame goes 12-0 or 11-1?

move in the right direction but there has been so much concentration that there are essentially 2 power conference.
if FSU bails on the ACC that conference gets weak AF fast
