so the van going straight has the right of way over the car turning left.

Exactly.

Edit: assumed it was a 4way.

For everyone saying the straight van has right of way...would a left turning car have to wait on a stream of cars going straight despite the stop signs?

Not a 4 way stop. It doesn’t matter who stopped first. The car turning always has to yield to the car going straight.

That rule applies to 4 way stops.

USPS going straight.

Volvo turning left.

Volvo owed the duty to yield to the USPS van.

And that's before you even get to the fact the dumbass didn't realize the USPS was in front of him (failure to see what he should have seen)

It's not a 4 way stop, so if they want to turn left yes they have to wait until no one is coming from the left or right and that cars at the stop sign ahead of them is not going straight or turning right.

I have to deal with an intersection similar to this leaving work every day. Normally I just turn right and find somewhere to turn around because waiting for a chance to turn left often takes ages.

Of course, a stupid fricking jury in EBR or Orleans would probably put the majority of the fault in the USPS vehicle.

Yep. I had to rewatch the video and had assumed it was a 4way. But it’s definitely not.

In most states... yes. But you can always look it up for your state.

From what I've experienced, if you're turning left and a car runs into you, you're almost always going to be determined to be at fault. You must yield right of way to cars going straight.

Aren’t postal vehicles pretty damn protected when it comes to right of way arguments?

I remember in drivers ed being taught the mail has the RoW in pretty much all scenarios

Looks almost as if the Volvo driver decided to intentionally hit the van. I drive under the impression that at a two way stop or an intersection with a light, left-turning car would have to yield to car going straight, in fact, I got stopped one time in my neighborhood turning in front of a driver that obviously wasn't paying attention and sitting at a light, I turned left in front of them, no incident and turn was clean, but sheriff's deputy pulled me over and "educated" me that my violation was failure to yield, and that he could ticket me. Gave me a warning.

I didn't think it was possible, but maybe you're as stupid as you are unlikable?

Neither the car or the USPS van are at fault for this accident. Its so obvious how do you people not get the correct answer.

So by your dumb logic, if I got the stop sign first and then another car decides to be an arse and go first I can ram him and it’s his fault? Some people need to stay off the streets…

Oshkosh Defense manufactures those vans

Appropriate name because that van took the hit like a champ. Not a scratch on it
