Yesterday's Arnold ad was a shock... because it's the first semi-funny State Farm ad since pale Jake.

Ridley Scott was the director.
That spot probably moved the needle on sales for an expensive product from an established company more than any other SB ad in history. Probably nothing else got close until the '90s.
That being said probably the best SB ad prior to the 90's and I would argue of all time is the Mean Joe Green Coke commercial. It permeated culture in a way very few ads had ever done at the time.
