WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Thursday afternoon to proceed to a stripped-down bill that would provide aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, one day after Republicans in the chamber rejected a bipartisan border security and foreign aid bill.

The vote of 67-32 means the Senate can begin consideration of the $95 billion package, although the next steps are uncertain and it's not yet clear it will the votes for final passage in the chamber.

“This is a good first step. This bill is essential for our national security,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the floor after the vote. “Failure to pass this bill would only embolden autocrats like Putin and Xi, who want nothing more than America’s decline. Now that we are on the bill, we hope to reach an amendment with our Republican colleagues on amendments.”

WTF? The IMMIGRATION, Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan bill was only $118B. So they took all the immigration slush funding out and still only reduced it by 23B? What the hell is in it?

This is absurd.

Not 1 cent of an American taxpayer's money belongs in Ukraine.

I don't agree with any of that spending, but just on principle, Johnson should create three individual bills that mirror the contents of this one and just bring them up for a straight vote in the house.

They should be considered individually. It's not general national defense spending, its targeted foreign aid.

No, the senate did NOT just pass Ukraine funding. You know better than that. Your own link says final passage of the bill is still uncertain.

Why are you being so drama queenish on this vote?

The senate vote only set a limit on debate (cloture) on the bill. The bill itself has not been passed.

We can’t print this money and pass it on to Ukraine and help a fellow out so with no downside why wouldn’t we?

Both Kennedy and Cassidy voted with the neocons.

Yesterday, Cassidy voted for the Border Bill.

Louisiana needs new leadership.

Turtle is gonna get his laundered cash one way or another. And frick chuck grassley....he's always voting for this hemorrhaging of cash but tries to pretend he cares on other subjects when he sends his sternly worded letters of reprimand.

Sendings 100’s of billions to other countries with zero oversight while already trillions in debt? If that’s not decline than what is?
