The 98’ Padres team was fun to watch.
People forget how good Kevin Brown was. He was my favorite player in high school and I tried to mimic his windup
He was throwing smoke and sliders at 93-95

There is most definitely a double standard. Same for NBA…
No one will touch the NBA when it comes to the players doping. EPO is huge as well as traditional gear.

Yep. Brown, Andy Ashby, Hoffman. They didn’t have an overly powerful lineup but they were all solid and the defense was great. Quilvio Veras, Caminiti, Joyner, Gwynn, Greg Vaughn. Wish they could’ve gotten past the Yankees but that team was a monster.

I hate to tell everyone but Caminiti has been dead for years.

Yes Cam did juice, no doubt about it.
well, he admitted it publicly and was the guy who really blew open the whole steroid thing back when it first came out, so you're right there is no doubt.

One of the GOAT juicers
Sure was.
Basically DOUBLED his usual HR output for 5 years once he began Juicing. Then slide back to "normal" sorta (as he routinely began to pull muscles )
I remember Caminiti totally running out of gas against the Bombers in the '98 WS.

I'll go ahead and mention Luis Gonzalez as one.
Gonzo is Exhibit Row "A" of just how effective Roids were/are at developing quick-twitch muscle fibers and power.
Like Caminiti and so many others during the late 90s-early 00s, they were both (normally) 13-15 HR guys, but the juice pumped up their power numbers to 25+.
Had natural fast-reflex. strong-wrist power guys like Mantle, Aaron, Frank Robinson Juiced, they'd have hit 60-90 bombs routinely. (Mantle's power WITH Juice may have hit over 100. )

If the pitchers were on juice doing the juice era, would it matter if the hitters were on it?
Anyone here ever juiced? Did it make you hit the baseball?

Was catching up a little on Ken. That was a hard, sad life of substance abuse.
The 90s were the Wild West in baseball as far as PEDs.

Did NOT Juice.
But if you wanna know how and what it did for players, THIS book by Kirk Radomski is a highly recommended read. Outstanding eye-opener -- From the Mets "clubhouse guy" to "connection" for an entire league. Someone here mentioned Kevin Brown -- whose relationship with Radomski for one is featured (Jekyll and Hyde performances On/Off):

It makes me laugh. The NFL has 250-260lb guys running 4.6 40s and not a single sports reporter bats an eye. You let one Dominican shortstop piss hot and every sports commentator gets a case of the Aunt Pittypat vapors and starts caterwauling about the sad state of baseball.
So true

It matters, yes.

No, but it turns fly balls into homeruns. It turns ground outs into singles that get past the SS. It didn't help their coordination, but when couples with their coordination, made them far more dangerous at the plate.
Sure it helped pitchers add 3-4 MPH to their fastballs, but I'd argue that isn't the same advantage as a hitter has on juice.
All that to be said, I like my sports with steroids
