Started a new job after retiring from the military at the beginning of the month. Start date was 22 Jan. Came down with acute sciatica on 26 Jan and missed two days. Went back in this morning and boss said pack you shite.
Welcome to the civilian world. FML.

4 day weekend after your first week? Bold move.

Don't sound like much of a military man if a lil back pain caused you to miss 2 days of your second week at a new job. Sad

You were already calling in sick after only 4 days on the job ?
What does your recently retiring from the military have to do with you not showing up for work ?
Were we all supposed to thank you for your service and admonish the company that dared to fire you for not showing up for work ?

Acute sciatica is no joke.
Sorry for your loss (job).

Welcome the real world champ. We work for a living here.

That sux but maybe it’s for the best if they care that little about their people.

It’s hard to find a successful person who has not been fired. Shake it off. Rub some dirt in it. You da man.

Norco and Flexeril and go to work, hoss

Exactly. That’s a pretty short leash for what seems like no legitimate reason.
The company did you a favor.

That sucks on both ends. What was the job?
I used to be a super people friendly manager until I managed call center employees who would create every excuse under the sun to miss work or not work while at work. It made me incredibly jaded to the point where I no longer cared about anyone's reasons for surprise missing work, no matter how valid it may have been.
The manager might seem harsh, but it's possible he started off nice and was trampled by dozens or hundreds of employees taking advantage of his kindness and making his job miserable so he has no patience for a surprise excuse anymore.

It will literally take you to your knees if you position your back just right. Doesn’t take any sort of physical strain to make it happen.

What were you doing? Maybe someone here can help.

I destroyed my neck/upper back in 2023 and I only missed 2 days. 1 of them I was in the ER and the other I couldn't move my neck without the feeling of a knife going in my back.
Back pain sucks but you needed to suck it the frick up on your first week baw

As the great man Frank Sinatra once said, “Each time I find myself laying flat on my face, I just pick myself up and get back in the race. That’s life!”
