The idea is to then trade BI in the offseason for a center.
So, you're back to being desperate to trade BI because you've got a massive vacuum a the 5. Again, this is how you force yourself to make a bad trade for a mediocre center.

The worst play is to be even more desperate and give Brandon Ingram a max contract.

This does not add up to me. That's a pretty hefty cost.
He talks about involving a 3rd team for JV to cover some of the cost. But you're also talking about someone that is producing at a similar level as BI with the potential to be much better than BI on defense, but is going to be starting an extension that will be cheaper than what most of us expect to pay Trey on his 2nd contract.
I think you are overvaluing JV/Dyson and undervaluing Murray. I say that as someone that has defended both JV and Dyson as much as anyone else on this board. You give up 3 dimes to get a quarter every time in the NBA.

Agree to disagree. Murray is a restricted free agent, so you're going to have to pay him this offseason, too. You're not getting him long-term for his current contract amount.
What if we have to overpay Dejounte Murray to keep him and still end up having to overpay for a starting 5?

You DONT have to pay him. It opens up cap space to do what you want if you don’t like the fit. Thats beneficial as well.

He's already signed an extension through 27-28
$18,214,000
$25,499,599
$27,539,568
$29,579,537
$31,619,506

I was wrong about him expiring. I missed his extension last summer. Still, this is like the Tyreke Evans Trade 2.0.
This is like the people who were giddy about the CP3 to Houston trade, not realizing that it just created a chaotic pile of pieces to try to put together a complete roster.

He's arguably as good as BI, I'd say inarguably pretty darn close to BI. Factor in salary, and it's not even close that Murray's salary number the next 4 years will be better value than BI's next extension.

Murray signed an extension last summer. He's locked up for like 4 years

Part of me wants to do this just to frick over the Lakers even if it doesn’t make us better lol

So you would only be desperate to trade B.I. If Murray doesn't work out?

Remember when we set the franchise back 10 years by sending out a quality starting center and serviceable backup PG to bring in an extremely redundant combo guard and "promising young center"? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Pepperidge Farms also remembers when people wanted to offer a massive contract to a washed center with no knees to fill the gap.
Just assuming that all that other shite will work out if we do this trade is silly. You are creating a LOT Of roster entropy to make this move.

Btw I doubt this happens due to Klutch + rumors Murray is not an amazing locker room dude. Doubt we do anything major this deadline unless we completely shite the bed in the next few weeks.

It would certainly make you very desperate to not have 2/3 of your payroll tied up on redundant pieces in BI/Murray/CJ.

I’m just tired of status quo. I get what you’re saying but trying to constantly make something work- that due to various issues, just hasn’t is the definition of insanity. Sometimes, change is just needed- Zion/BI just dont work well together.

Idk I feel like contracts mean less and less nowadays when it comes to team control. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there’s trade smoke between Murray and the Lakers even though the Lakers objectively have poor tradeable assets.
