Wife (no pics) has been home since we came home from the hospital with our first. we have 3 now. She homeschools our oldest 2. I wasn't ok with it up until the day he was born. The second i held him i had a change of heart. We have made many sacrifices, but getting videos from my wife during the day of their accomplishments is better than no video from a daycare worker.
That said, any time i say we di that, it automatically sounds like an indictment on people who do daycare. Not what i mean by it at all. just how we felt.

I've asked my wife if she thinks she will ever want to work again. Like maybe when the kids are older.
My Mom never had a job in her adult life until my Dad retired and they opened up an antique shop together. They love it. Keeps them busy and connected.

Single income HH here. Wife is stay at home. I’d be open to wife working while kids are in school but it’s critical to us that she’s there for the kids.

I raised three kids like that. Wife took care of the kids and the home. I'd be fine if she got a job, or not.

The wife works. Nanny for the kids. At least that's what I tell them to call her.

You get hooked up with OysterPoboy here and you can have some good old OT vertical integration.

we got a kid in daycare. Seems alright. She is good around other kids.
not ideal I guess but I was raised with two white collar working parents. Never crossed my mind to have a stay at home wife
Both of ours went to daycare until they were old enough to stay home a few hours by themselves. One of them graduated from UC Boulder and the other is a straight A student entering the 9th grade. We both had careers before we had a family and anytime one or both of us needed to take off to be with the kids for any reason we just did, if our employer at the time didn't like it they could go to hell. I don't know that the one could have turned out better and the other one is doing fantastic and shows all the signs of doing better than her brother. Either one of them can make friends with ease and never meets a stranger, both of them are kind and generous and caring. What more could one ask for?

You're playing with fire if you don't have multiple income steams coming in

So which is worse, two people working their asses off to raise a family, none working their asses off to raise a family, or is it just anything that you don't like? Society ain't doomed, what is doomed is outdated thinking and looking down one's nose at others.
If I were a woman there is NO way in hell I would be subject to the whims of a man and not be capable of financially supporting myself. I would not want a wife who was in that position because far too many stay around just for security instead of being a family. There is just as much dysfunction in single family homes as there is in 2 family homes and in single income homes as there is in 2 or more income homes. The problem is the adults in each instance, not their being employed outside the home or not.
I am very proud that my daughter is being raised by a woman who is financially independent. It is my greatest hope for her in her life, to be financially independent and if she marries to do so for love and companionship, not 3 hots and a cot because that shite has proven fatal for way more women than women having a career has proved fatal for their kids. If a man is a daddy and not just a father he will pick up the slack...but thats too much to ask of many men.

Amen. And the same goes for the man in the family. Raising a family takes everything you got and far too many men think earning an income is the limit of their responsibility. When the kids get older and the wife has no marketable skills she is as fricked as a soup sandwich. Damned if I could respect an adult who got themselves in that position.

Yes, I am conservative and I grew up in a household with both parents working since the 50’s. My wife always worked until she retired and still has a PT job. Our kids went to daycare from infant to Kindergarten. They rode the buss to after school care until they were old enough to not need it.
What is your concern?

It's all a matter of priorities....your kids, or the latest and greatest vehicles, toys, trips, etc.
Or you can both be high earners, be involved in the kids life and still have the latest and greatest and the kids can turn out just fine.

My wife is a surgeon. Her options were to move to Louisiana or somewhere South and we could have a nice life on my income or stay in the Northeast, have a very nice life and be close to her family. The trade off was that she would have to work. She chose the latter.

Both of us work and our kid goes to daycare. We thought about have an in home nanny but we like the social aspects of daycare.
