It doesn't have to be. My wife (no pics) and I planned a fun and unique wedding and although there were some minor stresses in getting a few things right and on time, overall I am fortunate that my wife and I do not have to imitate everything and everybody we know on instagram, including have a grossy overpriced and ridiculous wedding.

Yep. And that was the nail in the coffin for my engagement. It shouldn't be though. It's just a stupid party.

Had a chick break off our engagement once. Was quite traumatic at the time. Turned out to be a Godsend.

She had gotten fired from her job after the engagement and decided that she was gonna not look for another job and instead start an Etsy shop. She basically earned nothing. It put a strain on their relationship as he was paying most of the bills while she was bleeding her savings and making no effort to get a real job. They broke up and almost immediately afterwards she gets a job and sold her house. The house was in her name and my buddy paid the down payment and half or more of every single note. She took all of the profit and offered him nothing. I’m glad he got out of that shite.

This is the kind of shite stories out there that fosters red pill/“incels”

No actual proposal and no actual engagement.

But we lived together for 2 years and each of our families gave partial approval for this, as we seemed to be on track for marriage.

Until I woke up and realized that she wasn't the person for me and broke it off.

It was quite the shock to everyone, even myself. Imagine having alot of passion for/about a person, but come the realization that you cannot live with them anymore due to their issues, insecurities, etc.

It's a hard bridge to cross, especially for the most heavily invested.

Hardest decision I've ever made, but had to make it. Hard break. Never seen her since. Hope she is doing well.

Called off one. Didn’t feel quite right. Had to go with my gut. Turned out to be the best.

Not me, but my brother. When I was in Jr.High, he was engaged to his college girlfriend. She called it off right before Thanksgiving. He was devastated. Well, they got back together during the Christmas holidays and the summer wedding was back on. A few months later, he called it off. To this day, I have no idea why.

In hindsight, I wish I’d have ended my first engagement. I wasn’t ready to get married to her. I let the one before her (who I should have married) walk because I was too scared to be a father.

But I’m glad it happened the way it did because I got my son from my current wife (no pics) and I wouldn’t trade him for anything.

Called off engagement. A blessing in disguise. My ex fiancé ended up marrying a beautiful woman who was clearly made for him.

My then-fiancée tried to call our wedding off a week before but I reminded her of the information I possessed that if disseminated would reduce her family to ruins, and she acquiesced soon after. We married, birthed 4 healthy children and live a happy life on our rural estate.

People get engaged now and don’t set a date or get married for 3 or so years, or it ends. It’s almost like a ring is more of a ‘promise ring’ in many cases.

an early 30s workplace proximity associate of mine got engaged in NYC over the break to her boyfriend of 4 years that she lives with. no date set, but it definitely won't be till late 2025 at the earliest. ring easily was $10k+.

There's a difference in being on the loan and being on the deed.
