My wife and I are staying at the Hilton St Charles next weekend and wanted to see where some of you locals would recommend that is off the beaten path. I have gotten some great rec’s from here in the past like Maypop, Fins, Domelise’s, Vincent's and many other places. Looking forward to hearing of any new or interesting places. Thanks

Looks interesting. What are some of your favorite dishes? Thanks

Off the beaten path?
Take the streetcar uptown to Soniat St and go to Geautreau’s.

Had lunch there earlier this month — beets, chicken, garlic noodles were all great.
Ate at hungry eyes in the fall. Was one of the better meals I’ve had recently. I saw on social they’re now taking resys (used to be walk-in only)

I wasn't too impressed with Mr. Mao. When I was there they were out of certain drinks and the dishes were well pretty average.
Much rather Patios or Herbsaint since you didn't list them, but they arent new/hot.

All of these and the ones mentioned above all look great. I’ve been looking at the menus and it will be a tough choice.

Clancy's.
And keep in mind that next weekend parades start, so that will affect your ability to get around, especially if you are saying on St Charles

You are staying on top of Restaurant Luke. Eat there for breakfast and not the hotel. Have drinks with your breakfast. Then enjoy the day.

I think Mister Mao is solid. But To me it’s a place for a party of 4+. Not a great date place imo. Food is spicy, bold & colorful, and certainly different than what you find in most Asian fusion places across town.
I am Surprised at the Beard accolades, though. Always feels a little disjointed & chaotic eating there.
OP if Southeast Asian interests you, I would recommend Pomelo which is around the corner. It’s smaller & quaint a bit more intimate. The food there is awesome & is a neighborhood gem.

I’ve had breakfast at Luke before and loved it. Pomelo sounds like something we would like. Thanks.

James Beard Foundation went off the rails a few years ago. Wouldn’t use that as a barometer to go or not go to a place. Mister Mao is definitely a place that is better with a bigger group.
