He’s a left handed bat that would DH often if not 100% ready to catch daily which is where he is.

I can’t imagine Milazzo catches over Neal or Trav. He is at best a 300 hitter with little to no power. His defense isn’t that good compared to the other 2 plus the others are plus offensive players. My understanding was that Neal was good defensively as well

I don't even know which direction to go with here.

Did you not watch the baseball team last year?

.300 hitter AT BEST???

His defense isn't that good compared to Travinski?

WTF is going on here.

.300 with no power, no speed, no walks, and Ks a lot in college baseball is pretty bad imo.

I just looked Milazzo’s stats and he was 29/97 last year with 23ks. 28 of the 29 were singles. .289 avg and .299 slg.

That is pretty bad.

One thing is for sure. When Neal’s not catching he’s gotta be in the lineup so the whole Milazzo/Travinski/Neal thing is going to be a lazy Susan.

His K rate was not anything above average. He is not some automatic out. His OBp was higher than Jordan Thompson. The frick is wrong with you?

He had 29 hits and all but one were singles. That is crazy low power. The best he can do is a single. Opposing teams love to see Milazzo coming to bat.

ETA. I just checked JT’s stats and Milazzo was 1pt above him in OB% but JT slugged .430 to Milazzo’s .299

Great post by Atllsufan….

Some of you need to keep in mind a couple things.
1) Neal started early in the year when we played less than SEC caliber teams. That said, he was the best option at the seasons onset.
2) the poster saying Milazzo isn’t really a threat at the plate is correct when it comes to power and speed. Past that, he may have led the team in sacrifice bunts last year. He also worked counts/pitchers very well and yes his batting average went down the last 6 weeks of the season considerably. As did everyone else’s, because we were facing the best teams with the best pitchers for the last 4 to 6 weeks of the seasons.

And why do you think that is when the data shows sacrifices typically aren’t worth it (unless the person batting is very likely to hit into DP and extremely unlikely to get XB hit).

You still haven’t addressed the part when you said his defense isn’t that good compared to Neal or Travinski.

They didn’t try him at 2B for the fun of it.

Yea but also if Pearson hits another long slump you still have a LH option at 2B

I was trying to say his defense does not make up for his serious shortcomings as a hitter. He was clearly a better catcher than Trav but Trav was FAR SUPERIOR at the plate. Neal seemed to be pretty damn good behind the plate to start the year and obviously a good hitter before he got hurt.

Milazzo is a great defensive catcher. Did you watch the World Series tre Morgan play? The bat was better last year as well. He’s a 250ish hitter, but I’m ok with that for the defense he provides.

Yeah I watched. I stand by everything I said. He made a good play when Morgan made the GREAT play. His avg equals his slugging. If he hit .250 with avg power then he probably would’ve played over Trav.

Yeah, Milazzo is really a glue guy, and his catching is superb. Far fewer PBs & even WPs when he's catching, and he has an excellent arm and behind the plate management style. He's also had some clutch hits. Without seeing more, he's my guy behind the plate against VMI.

Neal had fielded 1.000 (no errors and 4PBs) and threw out 3/10 on bases in 26 games

Milazzo fielded .991 (3 errors, 3 PBs) and threw out 4/16 baserunners in 53 games

Trav fielded .992 (2 errors and 9 PBs) and threw out 6/14 baserunners in 41 games.

Just saying. Milazzo’s defensive stats are good but I wouldn’t say they are great. I do agree he is a glue guy FWIW so he probably deserves some PT.
