Just did my state taxes - had to pay an extra $60 for driving a hybrid. If your vehicle is electric then the charge is $120. Paid to the La Dept of Revenue. I wonder if it actually makes it over to the LADOT?

They are going to get that gas tax one way or another- and the roads are still going to suck.

And we supposedly have a “Republican “ legislature. Yeah right.

Seems fair. Why should I have to subsidize whatever funds go into roads for you to use them?

That is a separate question from whether they use those funds for road maintenance or not.

typical size of the contact patch?

I don't know if the total contact patch is sufficiently different but should be accounted for...

Given their abuse of roads via donuts and burnouts, Charger and Challenger owners should get charged more...

You’re right. The state is totally trying to “punish” hybrid/EV drivers by charging them (albeit a little higher that ICE) to use the same roadways.

Keep on fighting the power, sunshine.

I love how some of you like to pretend as though we haven't had thread after thread like this: LINK /

Celebrating these fees, and saying they should be even higher, for the express purpose of disincentivizing the purchase of hybrids and EVs. Which is, you know, punitive...

Should be higher. They are putting a lot more wear and tear on the roads the $120!

Certainly not an area of expertise for me, but my general understanding is that contact patch isn't particularly important, with the only real relevant metric is weight per axle.

Propose a law that makes intentionally damaging a roadway carry a fine that is a multiple of the cost to repair it and you'll have my support

Just don't forget to enforce it on large trucks that crush curbs by intentionally climbing on top of them instead of going a bit further out of their way to make a wider radius turn...

Can’t wait for the fake republicans cheering on this tax. More tax = more theft period.

Then remove my gas tax don’t tax evs either and don’t give tax credits for buying a vehicle that still fricking pollutes.

The gas tax is 20 cents per gallon. At $60 for a hybrid, I would have to not use 300 gallons of gas, within the state of Louisiana, per year. Let’s roughly ballpark that my gas mileage is twice as good as yours. That would mean I would need to actually use 300 gallons of gas, within the state of Louisiana, for this fee to be “fair”. Yet, I burn through less than half of that in a year. In short, we are being required to pay more than our usage would dictate to subsidize the rest of you.

The average car drives about 12500-15000 miles per year.

To me, it sounds like the EV and hybrid drivers are on average getting off easy with the $60/$120 annual hit.

Actually it’s right in line with what folks now pay in gas taxes if their vehicle got sbout 20 mpg and drove 12,000 miles in a year.

Let me see if I have this right?

You want to drive on La. roads and pay zero taxes to do so. How nice for you

And you want to do that in a state whose budget is mainly based on oil production. Again thats great, only for you

And you want to drive (for free) on these La. highways, all while knowing you create more damage to the roads via the weight of your vehicle vs mine. Hopefully youre now seeing some concerns at this point

Plus youre likely already enjoying using my tax dollars toward the purchase of your EV. While I had to buy without tax incentives, plus pay other taxes based on the purchase price

Sorry, but if you ask me, youve had more than your share of tax avoidance

Remember when everyone was gonna save money by cutting the cable and getting those $15 and $20 streaming TV packages that are now all $85 - $95? Yeah I do to

In South Carolina I believe the registration for an EV is an extra $250.

It’s break even for average drivers. Drive less you over pay, drive more you under pay.

EV's are heavy due to the big batteries. Heavy vehicles are harder on the roads.
