Just did my state taxes - had to pay an extra $60 for driving a hybrid. If your vehicle is electric then the charge is $120. Paid to the La Dept of Revenue. I wonder if it actually makes it over to the LADOT?

They are going to get that gas tax one way or another- and the roads are still going to suck.

And we supposedly have a “Republican “ legislature. Yeah right.

They need to, especially in La.

Anyone want to do that math on the milage to even out with an ICE?

ETA
EV @ $120 w/ .20 tax @ 25mpg = 15,000 miles a year. Thats about average. High five to La for doing some simple math and getting it mostly right.

Hybrid @ $60 w/ .20 tax @ 50mpg + the .20 tax they're already paying for some fuel looks to be about equivalent.

Sounds like the Republicans did a good thing if you ask me.

"Oh, so you want to be one of these electric car drivers that supports the green new deal? Well we're gonna tax your arse in this state, bitch!"

Why should owners of non-electric vehicles have to bear more of the responsibility for road funding than owners of electric and hybrid vehicles?

EVs are heavier than ICE vehicles and cause more damage to roadways.

Shouldn't there be a fee for that?

The gas tax is 20 cents per gallon. At $60 for a hybrid, I would have to not use 300 gallons of gas, within the state of Louisiana, per year. Let’s roughly ballpark that my gas mileage is twice as good as yours. That would mean I would need to actually use 300 gallons of gas, within the state of Louisiana, for this fee to be “fair”. Yet, I burn through less than half of that in a year. In short, we are being required to pay more than our usage would dictate to subsidize the rest of you.

you are fricking retarded if you think a Chevy bolt does more damage to a road than an F150. How much more does a Tesla weigh than an 18 wheeler?!
Damn, some of you people are dumb!

The gas tax for roads is for the roads, not gas car drivers using roads

Get the frick over it

I don't give a shite about your miles per gallon. Tell me how many miles you're driving on the road each year.

Oh goodnes, this should be fun

I drive about 10k miles per year, about 2/3 of that within the state. I get about 45mpg. Please do the calculation of how much gas tax I’m “avoiding” with my hybrid. And please show your work

In the state? Yep. Drive about 10k miles, roughly 2/3 in state, or about 6,600. 45mpg comes out to 148 in state gallons per year.

We pay nothing for roads in Louisiana. $60 a year isn't enough to fill a pothole.
