I just saw this and was coming to post. Wow.

Doesn't seem as silly now to consider Dev Patel as a potential James Bond.

I've always thought a cool spin on the Bond character would be to have a Bond hailing from India, which makes perfect sense given the longstanding colonial ties between Britain and India. Setting it in the past would be even better.

Is this his directorial debut?

Dev Patel is a brilliant actor. I’ve felt for a little while now he could become one of the breakout mega movie stars of the next decade.

That's a plus as far as I'm concerned.

And at the time, I remember John Wick was supposed to be a Taken ripoff.

Just got out. Brutal action flick with a lot of brooding. It's a movie of two halves. The first half is seething rage. The second half is focused rage. It takes a while for the flashbacks to tell the whole story of why he was so hellbent on revenge. Only the very end of the movie is John-Wick-like.

Aside from the expected class commentary ("They don't even see us..."), he takes shots at the current political climate in India right now, so it will be interesting to see the reactions to this movie from India.

And mentored by a singing bear. Great trailer, though.

Taking Bond out of his WW2/Cold War time frame is a much bigger deal than his skin color. Bond in the modern day isn't Bond.

Just got out. This movie kicked arse

Definitely a lot of John Wick infused in this, but also a lot of influence from other action movies like Bourne, raid, and even a twinge of RRR. Almost like a John wick prequel movie in a way

The setting and soundtrack is a lot of fun. Movie carries its own momentum well for a 2 hour run time.

Lot more hand to hand and knife combat than gun fights, but some really fun action spots throughout and some really fun stuff Patel did in terms of lighting, camera shots etc

Just a ton of fun.

Rather they copy that than some Fast and Furious action. There’s actual effort put into this kind of action. Not just big CGI explosions and random fists flying. My girlfriend hates action scenes but she really liked this one

They also made some overt and explicit references to John Wick and that franchise and its full of homages to that and other big action franchises. It’s done well. Shakey cam got overused a bit imo but the action flows very well and the movie always keeps its momentum

Couple of the needle drop scenes were a ton of fun and showed some fun stuff from Patel behind the camera.

You know, on that subject. When all this talk about a black James Bond was at its dumbest, fevered peak. It always seemed to me that if you were going to change Bond's race to something other than white. Indian always seemed most appropriate and most interesting.

I could live with that.
